On the morning of January 21, the People's Court of Da Nang City tried the defendant couple Pham Xu Ty (41 years old, residing in Thanh Khe district, Da Nang) and Vo Thi Tuyet for violating food safety regulations.
These defendants mixed borax into the meatloaf during the production and processing process.
According to the indictment, between April 2024 and December 20, 2024, Mr. Ty and his wife used borax (a food additive not on the list of permitted uses according to regulations) to produce and process various types of sausages.
These hams were sold at the price of 180,000 VND/kg of beef ham, 120,000 VND/kg of pork ham, 120,000 VND/kg of pork skin ham, 120,000 VND/kg of minced ham, with an illegal profit of 20 million VND.

On December 20, 2024, when inspecting Mr. Ty's sausage production facility, the authorities discovered and seized 518kg of beef sausage, 97kg of pork sausage, 90kg of pork skin sausage, and 122kg of minced sausage containing borax with a total value of more than 134 million VND.
According to the investigation, during the production process, due to the large amount of sausages produced, not being consumed, not being able to be preserved for long, easily damaged and having to be thrown away, losing capital, Mr. Ty went online to find out how to preserve sausages longer.
This man watched a video tutorial on how to buy borax to mix into the meatloaf to increase the preservation time, making the meatloaf fresher and more flexible. At the same time, he showed the video tutorial to his wife and they both agreed to buy borax to put in the meatloaf.
In April 2024, Mr. Ty went to Con market area (Da Nang) to contact a person (identity and background unknown) to buy 10kg of borax for 300,000 VND to bring back to his sausage production facility.
Every day, Mr. Ty goes to the market to buy 30-50kg of pork, beef, and fatty meat and then brings them back to the production facility.
After grinding the meat, he or his wife puts borax into the meatloaf at a dosage of 1 spoon of borax/10kg of meat.
After finishing, Mr. Ty brought the meat patties to the vendors who had taken the meat. Some patties were sold to customers who came directly to buy them.
Entering the interrogation, the defendant Ty and his wife admitted to the acts as charged in the indictment.
