Israeli tank “mistakenly fired” at Egyptian military post

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) admitted on October 22 that a tank of its army "accidentally" opened fire and hit an Egyptian military post.

“The incident is under investigation and the circumstances are being reviewed,” the IDF said in a statement. The IDF expressed “deep regret over the incident.”

An Egyptian military spokesman confirmed that some Egyptian border guards were slightly injured by shrapnel from Israeli tanks, but did not provide further details.

According to the Egyptian military, Israel immediately apologized for the “unintentional incident” and is “conducting an investigation.”

Egyptian media confirmed that this "mistake" will not disrupt the transportation of aid to Gaza through the Rafah border gate.

The Egyptian military post is located in the Kerem Shalom area, near the Israel-Egypt border and in the southern Gaza Strip. The incident occurred amid fierce fighting between the Israeli army and the Hamas movement in Gaza.
