However, since August 15 - the time when the regulations on identifying license plates were applied, the market for cars with beautiful license plates has almost "frozen".

According to the reporter's records, a used SH motorbike imported from Italy, with the "three-stick" engine number (111) and a "five-of-a-kind 9" license plate, previously cost more than 4 billion VND, but now costs only about half that.

Motorcycle shop owners keep nice license plates for customers to rent or buy under a power of attorney.

In general, most motorbikes with beautiful license plates like "four of a kind", "five of a kind"... previously had a selling price of several hundred million to billions of dong.

For example, a SH with the license plate "five noble 8s" costs 2 billion VND, a license plate "five noble 6s" costs 1.3 billion VND, a "five noble 7s" or "five noble 5s" cost about 1 billion VND... The "softer" price is for cars with the license plate "five noble 1s" and "five noble 4s", about 300 - 400 million VND/car.

In addition, cars with progressive license plates such as 12,345, 56,789... also cost billions of VND. Even a Honda Wave with a "five-of-a-kind 9" license plate can be sold for up to 600 - 700 million VND.

After August 15, the price of used cars with nice license plates plummeted but there were still no buyers. Some customers bargained to buy at 40% - 50% of the previous price, but many stores did not sell, keeping them waiting for the price to increase.

Mr. Tran Hai - owner of Tinh Hai motorbike shop on Phan Dang Luu street, Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City - explained that due to the application of regulations on identifying license plates, the license plates will have to be returned to the previous owner. Motorcyclists no longer have the opportunity to own beautiful license plates, leading to a sharp decline in demand in the market.

According to Mr. Le Thien Toan - owner of Loc Phat beautiful license plate shop in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City - although the application of the regulation on identifying license plates has had a certain impact on the market, there will be a way out.

" Many customers accept not to transfer the name but to buy the car by making a power of attorney or a sales contract. However, to be able to sell the goods at this time, the stores also need to reduce the selling price," said Mr. Toan.

The owner of Loc Phat shop said that before August 15, he had completed the procedures to transfer the ownership of about 20 motorbikes with nice license plates here. These motorbikes with nice license plates are currently under the shop's name.

"We switched to another business plan. That is renting cars with nice license plates or buying and selling under authorization so that the buyer can keep the license plate," said Mr. Toan.

According to the car business community, people who buy cars with nice license plates are less likely to stick with a specific car and tend to look for different nice number series. Therefore, many people accept to buy cars with nice license plates with a power of attorney for convenience in buying and selling later.
