At around 10am, a 26-year-old male driver was driving a private ambulance on the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway, carrying a young man from Cho Ray Hospital to Can Tho. When reaching the section through Cai Lay town, the ambulance crashed into the back of a special vehicle of the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7 (Traffic Police Department) on duty on the road.
At that time, two traffic police officers got out of the car to check the 4-seater car, so they were not affected. The accident caused minor injuries to the young man in the ambulance. The special car's rear was deformed and the window glass was broken, while the ambulance's front was damaged. The incident caused the highway through the area to be congested for two hours.
The ambulance driver told the police that he had fallen asleep while driving a long distance and had not been paying attention when he crashed into the special vehicle. He had previously rested for about an hour at the stop.

Inaugurated in April 2022, the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway is 51 km long, 16 m wide, and has 4 lanes. In addition to helping reduce the load on National Highway 1, the expressway also shortens the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to My Thuan by half compared to before. Currently, the expressway does not have an emergency lane, with 6 emergency stops in each direction. In the future expansion phase, the route will be upgraded to 6 lanes, including two emergency lanes on both sides.
