Mr. Khuc Dinh Phuong introduces the sacred legend associated with Yen Tu apricot variety.

Mr. Khuc Dinh Phuong, Deputy Director of Thang Long Company Limited, the garden manager, shared: Yen Tu hairy apricots were planted from 2021-2022, and are currently entering the first fruiting season, promising a bumper crop. Yen Tu hairy apricots have a distinctive flavor and are associated with the legend of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong.

Legend has it that in a dream, the Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong was taken by a golden dragon to a majestic cave, where the lake was covered with golden lotus flowers and ripe fruit trees. When he woke up, the lingering fragrance still lingered, causing the Buddhist Emperor to name the temple where he stopped Long Dong Tu (now Lan Pagoda). Over time, many apricot trees grew around the temple, spreading a gentle fragrance throughout the area every spring. People believe that this type of apricot carries the sacred mountain spirit, not only has a unique flavor but also helps purify the soul, becoming a refreshing drink for Zen monks.

Since 2007, when Uong Bi City assigned the task of developing the apricot growing area, Thang Long Company Limited has researched and preserved the native apricot variety. The original Yen Tu hairy apricot variety was ordered to be propagated at the University of Agriculture to maintain the precious gene source. Through actual cultivation, this apricot variety has proven to be suitable for the soil and climate of Yen Tu and has a special and unique flavor.
