Bui Cong Dan (22 years old, from Phu Yen), a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, has just received his graduation results with high achievements, an average score of 3.28/4 and achieved the title of excellent student of the entire course.
Overcoming adversity, Bui Cong Dan is determined to study well to protect his mother.
In 2002, Cong Dan cried for the first time without knowing his father. Six months later, his mother left him to remarry. At that time, Dan and his sister were taken care of and raised by their grandmother. The family was poor, the three of them relied on each other, and their clothes and school supplies were all donated by the neighbors.
Due to difficult circumstances, the older sister gave up her study opportunities so that her younger brother could continue his dream of going to university. In 2020, Dan reaped sweet rewards and became the pride of his family when he was admitted to Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
Dan said: “I used to not dare to dream because I knew that my circumstances did not allow me to hope too much. But thanks to everyone's help, I changed my mind and tried harder.”
Grandma is the one who raised and took care of Dan for over 20 years.
Sharing the reason for studying law and not another major, the student said in a low voice that although his mother did not raise and take care of him, she was still his mother and still followed Dan's path to adulthood every day.
“I know that my mother has her own suffering, so she had to choose to leave us. Her life since getting married is not complete. I am very heartbroken that my mother is a victim of domestic violence. That is the reason why I am determined to study law to bring justice, to reclaim freedom and a voice for my mother,” Dan confided.
The student admitted that finances were a very difficult issue, especially having to live and study for a long time in Ho Chi Minh City, but that was not his biggest concern. What Dan was most concerned about was having to be away from his grandmother. Having lacked family affection since childhood, his grandmother was his strongest emotional support. Therefore, whenever he had free time, Dan would arrange to visit her.
"The speed of my success must be faster than the speed at which my grandmother and mother age" - the student confided.
Grandmother is the strongest spiritual support that helps Dan try hard every day.
During his 4 years of university, Dan actively participated in extracurricular activities of the school and volunteer activities of social organizations.
The young man tries to arrange to be able to work part-time to earn money to cover his living expenses while ensuring his studies and constantly "upgrading" himself, doing many meaningful activities for the community.
Smart planner, by relying on academic results, I was able to "hunt" for about 15 scholarships from organizations and businesses to reduce the pressure on tuition fees.
“We have difficult circumstances but our determination and will are not difficult. We can be born in difficult circumstances but do not let the remaining years of our lives be lived in difficulty” – Dan affirmed.
The student actively participates in many activities to "upgrade" many skills for himself.
Looking back on his journey of efforts, Dan feels extremely lucky to always receive attention and love from everyone around him, especially from the program "Couple of Loving Leaves" and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
Despite the lack of family affection, for Dan, growing up under the arms of his grandmother is an extremely happy and fulfilling thing. On August 18, Dan will take his grandmother to Ho Chi Minh City to attend his graduation ceremony.
With his academic achievements, the new law graduate hopes to find a suitable job in the legal department of a company or a law firm, and considers pursuing a master's degree or taking the exam to become a lawyer. After that, he will save some money to take his grandmother on a trip around the world.
