The 2025 AFC U-17 Championship will take place from April 3 to 20 in Saudi Arabia, bringing together 16 of the region’s best youth teams. The tournament is divided into four groups, with each team playing a round-robin to determine rankings. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
In this year's tournament, U17 Vietnam is in Group B with U17 Japan, U17 Australia and U17 UAE. According to the schedule announced by the Organizing Committee, U17 Vietnam will face U17 Australia at 10pm on April 4, U17 Japan at 10pm on April 7, and close the group stage with a match against U17 UAE at 10pm on April 10.
Vietnam U17 has carefully prepared for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has decided to increase the number of teams participating in the 2025 U17 World Cup to 48, thereby giving Asia a total of eight places to participate. According to the tournament format, eight teams that pass the group stage at the AFC U17 Championship will qualify for the World Cup. Therefore, to participate in the world stage, U17 Vietnam needs to at least pass the group stage.
In order to best prepare for this important tournament, U17 Vietnam gathered in early March 2025. After that, coach Cristiano Roland and his team had a training trip and friendly match in Oman.
During the training in Oman, U17 Vietnam played two friendly matches with the host team and won both matches with the same score of 1-0. This is an encouraging result as U17 Oman is rated higher, thereby bringing confidence to the team before entering the 2025 AFC U17 Championship.

The 2025 AFC U17 Championship is not only a playground for teams to compete but also an opportunity to win tickets to the World Cup, so all teams bring their strongest squads to Saudi Arabia. The fact that Vietnam U17 is in Group B with Japan U17, Australia U17 and UAE U17 is a big challenge, because all three opponents have developed football and have many achievements in the continental arena.
In this group, U17 Japan and U17 Australia are considered the two leading candidates for the championship. Meanwhile, UAE football has always been a tough opponent for Vietnamese football at all levels.
However, with positive signals from the friendly tournament at the end of 2024 in China and two impressive matches against U17 Oman, fans have the right to hope for the ability of U17 Vietnam to create a surprise at this tournament in Saudi Arabia.
