On October 31, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporters asked about the prospects of Vietnam's cooperation with the BRICS group in the future.
Regarding this issue, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet affirmed that as an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam has been and will make active and responsible contributions to multilateral mechanisms for peace, stability and development in the world, in accordance with Vietnam's interests and needs.
“Vietnam will study information about BRICS regulations,” said Mr. Doan Khac Viet.
The Deputy Spokesperson also affirmed that Vietnam's participation in regional and international multilateral mechanisms is always studied on the basis of suitability with Vietnam's interests, conditions and capabilities; at the same time, it consistently demonstrates the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations, being a friend, reliable partner and active member of the international community.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. BRICS has recently expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Many countries are now expressing interest in joining BRICS. BRICS cooperation is based on three pillars: political-security cooperation, economic-financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently attended the BRICS Leaders' Meeting in Kazan, Russia (October 23-24, 2024) as a guest. This is an important conference within the framework of cooperation between BRICS and developing countries.
