(Dan Tri) - The cooperation agreement with Nvidia helps affirm Vietnam's potential and position in research and development of high-tech fields, especially artificial intelligence (AI).
On the afternoon of December 5, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Jensen Huang, founder and Chairman of Nvidia Corporation. Currently, Nvidia is the world's largest chip manufacturing corporation with a market value of over 3,000 billion USD. The Prime Minister and Chairman of Nvidia witnessed the signing ceremony of an agreement between the Vietnamese Government and Nvidia Corporation on cooperation in establishing Nvidia's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Center and AI Data Center in Vietnam.
A pivotal moment for Nvidia and Vietnam
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed the cooperation agreement between Nvidia and the Vietnamese Government as an important milestone demonstrating the determination and strong commitment of Chairman Jensen Huang in turning Vietnam into "Nvidia's second home". The Prime Minister also proposed that the two sides cooperate in researching and developing artificial intelligence to create a new production force based on Vietnamese artificial intelligence with the cooperation of Nvidia and proposed some specific directions.

Accordingly, Nvidia will continue to advise Vietnam to develop this field and cooperate in infrastructure development, human resource training, promoting the start-up movement, innovation, especially inspiring the young generation; developing technology to maximize Vietnam's potential through artificial intelligence. The Vietnamese Government is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for the cooperation contents between the two sides to be implemented effectively, bringing practical benefits to both sides in the spirit of "harmonious benefits, shared risks", "listening and understanding together". For his part, Nvidia Chairman Jensen Huang expressed his pleasure in returning to Vietnam to announce Nvidia's Research and Development Center in Vietnam, continuing the discussion with the Prime Minister on the field of artificial intelligence and semiconductor chips in Vietnam. He affirmed that this is a great opportunity, an important moment for Vietnam when the artificial intelligence industry is undergoing the most profound changes, developing new industries, services, products, and promoting growth. Artificial intelligence is a new technology that is changing the data of all countries, data must be considered a national resource. Chairman Jensen Huang believes that artificial intelligence is an extraordinary opportunity for Vietnam. Vietnam's encouragement and support for this field will be a big push and Nvidia will be Vietnam's partner and friend in every step, every journey.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said that this is an important event, a historic turning point. The agreement is not only a strategic step and a new development direction for Nvidia, but also an important milestone for Vietnam to become a leading AI research and development center in Asia, creating breakthroughs for key technology industries, while opening up career opportunities for domestic talent. Nvidia's support in the field of AI will help Vietnam not only achieve its development goals in the high-tech industry in general, and the AI field in particular, but also contribute to promoting the entire Southeast Asian region to become a destination for innovation.
Vietnam has many advantages to compete.
At the seminar "Development trends of the semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence and opportunities for Vietnam" held in December 2023, Nvidia Chairman Jensen Huang said that a new wave of technology is coming and could be the biggest wave ever. "Vietnam is ready for 100% digitalization. You have had decades of digitalization and people are ready to use mobile platforms. That is the asset of language and culture," said Nvidia Chairman. According to Mr. Jensen, Vietnam also has a second factor, which is a team of highly qualified software engineers. "Artificial intelligence is software, and software is created by people. Vietnam has a rich resource of software engineers and these engineers are ready to jump to the next step like AI," Mr. Jensen shared.

The third factor is infrastructure because AI requires supercomputers to process and turn data into intelligence. "In the future, you need supercomputers. We are producing intelligence with Vietnamese engineers, for Vietnam. This requires AI infrastructure. The problem now is to improve skills and build one million AI experts. This will be the strongest team in the world. We are ready to cooperate with Vietnam to improve AI skills and infrastructure," Mr. Jensen affirmed. Since 2021, the Government has issued the National Strategy on AI Research, Development and Application to 2030, with the goal of making Vietnam a center for innovation and development of AI solutions and applications in the ASEAN region and the world. In that context, many Vietnamese enterprises have quickly seized the opportunity and increased investment to soon master new technologies. Since June 2022, the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel) and Nvidia Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation on artificial intelligence to promote research activities and application of AI technology at Viettel and Vietnam. Most recently, at the Techday 2024 event held in November, FPT officially launched an AI factory in Vietnam with an estimated investment cost of 200 million USD. Previously, FPT AI Factory was also introduced in the Japanese market. FPT will join hands with a series of corporations such as Nvidia, SCSK, Asus, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, VAST Data and DDN Storage to develop AI factories in Vietnam and Japan. Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, said that the AI factory is a key platform for the development of the human economy and AI agents, representing the new workforce of the technology era. Within the framework of VinFuture Science and Technology Week 2024, Professor Yann LeCun assessed that Vietnam has many favorable factors to develop artificial intelligence in many fields.

"Artificial intelligence is a new material that promotes all industries, for example in the field of electric cars and medicine, helping doctors diagnose and cure more diseases. Vietnam's advantage is that it is a country with a young population, Vietnamese people are also very intelligent, creative and hard-working, so artificial intelligence has the potential to develop very quickly," said Professor Yann LeCun. According to Professor Yann LeCun, in Vietnam, artificial intelligence will play a big role in developing areas such as education, science, research, startups; thereby making an important contribution to economic development. In September, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed a Decision approving the Program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050". Accordingly, by 2030, Vietnam aims to train 50,000 workers for the semiconductor industry, including at least 5,000 artificial intelligence engineers. Minister Nguyen Chi Dung also said that Vietnam has gradually improved its system of policies and laws on investment and enterprises to create the most favorable conditions for investment and business procedures for investors. Vietnam continues to improve the "one-stop" mechanism to handle procedures for investors.
