Accordingly, from June 17, Vietnam Airlines officially launched direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Manila - the capital of the Philippines. Specifically, the route between Hanoi - Manila will be operated with a frequency of 3 flights/week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. For the route between Ho Chi Minh City - Manila, the frequency is 4 flights/week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Thus, Vietnam Airlines will operate a total of 7 flights departing from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Manila.

Vietnam Airlines is the first airline in Vietnam to open a route to the capital of the Philippines. The new route is considered to be of great significance in the strategy of developing the international flight network of Vietnam Airlines, connecting Manila, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City - the leading economic centers of Southeast Asia.

In addition, opening a direct flight to Manila also contributes to promoting economic, cultural and tourism exchanges between Vietnam and the Philippines as well as in the Southeast Asian region.

On the occasion of opening a direct flight from Vietnam to Manila, Vietnam Airlines is offering round-trip tickets starting from only 141 USD (equivalent to 3,549 million VND) including taxes and fees. The promotion is for customers who buy tickets from April 8 to June 23, applicable to flights departing from June 17 to June 23.

According to the General Statistics Office's 2022 Statistical Yearbook, the average spending per Filipino visitor to Vietnam was 2,257.8 USD, leading the 10 international visitor markets with the highest spending in 2019. Compared to the average spending per international visitor to Vietnam (1,151.7 USD), Filipino visitors spent twice as much. This is quite a surprising result because even during the golden period of Vietnam's tourism before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Philippines was never considered a potential market because the number of visitors was quite modest.

Mr. TH, director of a travel company in Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that the Philippines is a potential new tourist market that Vietnam should pay attention to exploiting. "We just organized a tourism promotion delegation in the Philippines more than a month ago and they were very excited to see Vietnam's tourism resources. It is true that they used to go to the US and Korea a lot, but now they have started to know about Vietnam. In the Philippines, the standard of living is very expensive, the cost of living is high, so when they come to Vietnam, they see many strange but cheap things, they like them. Filipinos are willing to spend a lot of money on Vietnamese cuisine and souvenirs," said Mr. TH.
