Over the past 5 years, Vietnam has sent 173 contestants to compete in regional and international Olympics, bringing home 54 gold medals, 60 silver medals, 45 bronze medals and 14 certificates of merit.
In 2022, Vietnam won the most gold medals with 13 students achieving this achievement. Next are 2021 and 2024 with 12 gold medals.
In 2024 alone, Vietnam will have 7 student delegations participating in regional and international Olympic competitions with 38 students participating. Including an Informatics delegation participating in the Asia-Pacific Olympic region, a Physics delegation participating in the Asia Olympic region and 5 delegations participating in the international Olympics: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Informatics.
Compared to 2023, 2024 will see an increase of 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals. Vietnamese student delegations will achieve high rankings; many Vietnamese students will achieve top scores, especially practical exam scores will increase compared to previous years, specifically:
Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, Vietnam ranked 6th out of 35 participating countries and territories. Although 6 countries won the same gold medal, Vietnam had more silver medals.
In the International Physics Olympiad, the Vietnamese team ranked 5th among the countries with the highest results (after China, Russia, Romania, etc.). This year, the students' practical test scores have improved significantly. This shows that more attention has been paid to practical training and experiments.

At the International Chemistry Olympiad , the Vietnamese team also maintained its top position this year with three gold medals and one silver medal. In the medal tally compared to other national teams, the Vietnamese team ranked second with the US team and only behind the Chinese team.
At the International Biology Olympiad, the Vietnamese team won three gold medals and one silver medal, ranking third out of 81 participating countries and territories. This is also the best achievement of Vietnamese students since 2019. In particular, many Vietnamese students achieved high results in practical exams that require very high standards.
At the International Olympiad in Informatics , the Vietnamese national team was among the top 4 countries and territories with the highest medal tally, after the United States, Japan and Poland. Previously, in 2023, the Vietnamese team was among the top 9 countries with the highest medals.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the results of the regional and international Olympics in 2024 and the past 5 years affirmed the efforts and endeavors of students. Along with that is the guidance of teachers; the care and attention of parents and schools; the organization and direction of units in the process of nurturing excellent students in localities.
This is also the result of innovation in the education sector in selecting and training national teams to participate in regional and international Olympic competitions according to the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training.
"The outstanding achievements of the Vietnamese national team affirm the quality of general education; affirm the right direction in discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students," said the Ministry of Education and Training.
