Parents and children go to school to complete admission procedures this year
The information was shared in an online television consultation program with the topic "Is there still a chance for additional recruitment?" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of August 20.
Candidates with high scores still fail their applications
Sending a question to the program, a candidate wrote: "Because I was too confident in my exam scores, I only registered for 2 wishes, but in the end, I failed both of them even though I was only 0.15-0.25 points short. I regret not having backup plans..." Sharing in the program, Master Cao Quang Tu, Director of Admissions at Saigon International University, said: "This story has been warned many times before candidates set their admission wishes. Experts have advised not to choose too many wishes but also not to choose too few to avoid the risk of 'going empty-handed'".
Not only the above case, Master Tu further analyzed: "There are candidates with quite high scores but still fail their desired wishes. This comes from subjectivity, candidates when setting wishes only rely on their own scores without basing on an overall analysis of the general situation. If your score is high and many other students' scores are also high, then you need to have a strategy to choose the right wishes for this situation."
But during this period, Master Quang Tu said that what candidates need to do is find out information about the schools' additional admissions. Currently, many schools are accepting applications for the additional admissions until August 31, for example, Saigon International University. With this plan to end the additional admissions, candidates who are admitted in the next round can still enroll in the same class as candidates admitted in the first round.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Vu Quang Huy, Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, also said: "There are lucky candidates who are admitted to university as desired, but I have not had this luck yet. Candidates who have not been admitted as desired need to carefully consider whether to refuse admission for additional consideration because not all schools and majors consider additional consideration. If there is additional consideration, the quota will not be much and the standard score must be from the level of the first round or higher."

Candidates who passed their first choice still want to… change majors
Many questions came to the consulting program wondering whether the 'hot' majors still have additional admission quotas. Answering this concern, Master Cao Quang Tu said that the specifics of the additional admission period are implemented by each school according to its own plan. Therefore, candidates need to follow the information announced by each school. Currently, many schools have announced additional admissions, but other schools may announce them in the coming days. For example, Saigon International University is currently considering additional admissions according to 3 methods for all majors, including many majors that candidates are interested in.
Mr. Vu Quang Huy also said that Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology plans to consider about 1,000 additional admission quotas. These include "hot" majors such as information technology, multimedia communications, automotive engineering technology, etc. However, advising candidates who have passed the first round but are hesitant to enroll for additional admission consideration, Mr. Quang Huy said: "In this case, candidates need to think carefully and should not expect too much from additional admission because many schools no longer have additional admissions, some schools consider but do not have many quotas. Therefore, whether or not to choose to enroll with a 4th or 5th choice on the list, the important issue is the degree of similarity with the profession you love."
Talking about similar cases, Master Cao Quang Tu said that after the announcement of the admission scores, there were candidates who called the school to ask if there was any way to change their admission wishes in the first round. Among them were candidates who, even though they were admitted to their first choice, still felt that it was not the most suitable choice or their favorite major, so they wanted to find additional admission opportunities. Regarding these cases, Master Tu advised: "In fact, each training major always has a certain value. Not everyone who studies that major will have a job and of course be successful after graduation. A person's success comes from many factors, in which the important factor is the passion and effort of the learner himself. As long as he has enough ability and passion, any choice is a good choice. We do not have the most perfect choice, only the most suitable choice".
