2025 is the first year that the high school graduation exam will officially follow the 2018 general education program with many changes in content and assessment form. Immediately after the results of the survey of grade 12 students in the whole city were released, many schools accelerated their exam review strategies.
Schools have quickly activated practical, personalized and practical review solutions. The annual high school graduation exam not only evaluates each student, but also tests the teaching and learning capacity of schools.

Nguyen Sy Cuong, Principal of Nguyen Tat Thanh Secondary and High School (Cau Giay District), said: "Students at the school are divided into groups according to their abilities and given intensive review based on survey results."
Many schools in Hanoi have also applied a model of grouping by compulsory and optional subjects, combining multiple mock exams and detailed score analysis to identify knowledge "gaps".
Towards fair exams, real learning, real testing
Teachers said that at the present time, teachers always encourage and motivate students to focus on studying with the highest concentration. The school and teachers always closely follow and accompany students during the study process. However, students and parents should also note that they should not indulge in mock exams or excessive extra classes.
“Self-study and self-training are the decisive factors that help students overcome highly differentiated questions. This exam is also to evaluate students' real abilities, not just for the purpose of overcoming the score limit,” said teacher Nguyen Sy Cuong, emphasizing: "We orient students to study to adapt, not only to pass the exam but also to prepare for lifelong training."

From 2025, exams will be based on competency assessment. Many questions will be based on real-life situations, helping candidates see the connection between the knowledge they have learned and the world around them. This requires a profound change in teaching and learning methods: from rote learning to critical thinking, from memorization to application of interdisciplinary knowledge.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training has requested schools not to extend review sessions beyond three weeks after the end of the school year program, and to increase support for digital learning materials, television, online platforms, and practice according to reference questions published by the Ministry of Education and Training.
The results of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam this year will not only be a comprehensive test for students to consider recognizing high school graduation but also to evaluate the teaching and learning process; and for universities and vocational education institutions to use for enrollment in the spirit of autonomy.
