That was one of the issues raised at the meeting to connect and promote tourism between the Central and Western regions held on March 24 in Can Tho City. Representatives of dozens of travel and accommodation businesses, airlines Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways discussed solutions to connect and promote tourism between the two regions, especially in the context that domestic tourism is considered a support for the tourism industry.
Cai Rang Floating Market - famous tourist destination in the West
The West is "inferior" because of duplicate products
Ms. Vo Xuan Thu, General Director of Victoria Can Tho Resort (Can Tho City), said that although there are no official statistics, it can be seen from the destinations that the number of visitors from the Central region to the West is much less than the number of visitors from the West to the Central region. There are many reasons, but the most obvious is that the promotion of tourism products of the West has not attracted tourists from the Central region. Not to mention, except for Phu Quoc, the West is somewhat inferior in terms of sea.
"In return, the strengths of Western tourism are river gardens and agricultural tourism close to nature. That is also what Western tourism needs to take advantage of and promote, introducing to more tourists," Ms. Thu added.
Compared to the West, Central tourism has a great advantage in terms of sea.
Agreeing with this opinion, Mr. Nguyen Phu Yen, Director of Yen Travel, cited that while Western tourists going to the Central region are excited about large entertainment areas in Da Nang, Hoi An ancient town, etc., Central tourists going to the West have few similar products.
The advantage of tourism in the West is the river, but the products are duplicated.
"Honestly, the tourism products of the West are very similar, there are no big entertainment spots yet. For example, when going to Can Tho, there is only the floating market, but for many years now, you just buy a ticket and then get on a boat and go around, nothing has changed. You go once and then you don't want to go again. Previously, there was a flight from Can Tho to Thailand, on the outbound flight, Western tourists really liked to go to Thailand but on the contrary, Thai tourists did not like to go to the West because the West has many tourist spots that overlap with theirs such as floating markets, fruit gardens... That said, to attract tourists, the West needs to have more attractive products," Mr. Yen said frankly.
Promote domestic destinations together
Mr. Anton Bespalov, General Director of TUI Blue Nam Hoi An (Quang Nam), assessed that the potential for domestic tourism between the Central and Western regions is huge if there is cooperation between tourism businesses in the two regions to promote more destinations.
Mr. Anton Bespalov, General Director of TUI Blue Nam Hoi An (Quang Nam), said that it is necessary to join hands to promote domestic destinations more.
"According to my observation, currently foreign tours are promoted a lot but domestic tours are less known. Therefore, we need to join hands and when domestic destinations are better known, everyone will benefit," Mr. Anton Bespalov suggested.
According to the representative of TUI Blue Nam Hoi An, in addition to accommodation and resort services, this business is especially interested in introducing to tourists typical local destinations such as Tam Tien fish market, Tam Thanh mural village, Hoi An ancient town, Cham island... This is also the way Victoria Can Tho Resort is implementing in the West. For example, the upstream Mekong route of the Victoria Mekong cruise ship. Whether it is inland to Chau Doc, An Giang or across the border to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the journey is always associated with local destinations so that tourists can enjoy the river atmosphere and experience the culture and life of the local people.
Victoria Mekong Cruise is the first cross-border river cruise in the West, taking tourists from Can Tho to Cambodia.
Appreciating the potential of connecting domestic tourists from the Central and Western regions, Mr. Benoit Perdu, Transmekong Company (Can Tho), commented: International tourists coming to Vietnam are very interested in cross-Vietnam tours, and the Mekong Delta is a very important destination in that journey. "To connect the two regions, in addition to promoting tourism products, we hope that in the future there will be more flights and flight times will also be arranged to be most convenient for tourists," said Mr. Benoit Perdu.
Currently, the flight route connecting the West and Central regions only has the Can Tho - Da Nang route with a frequency of 2 flights/day; of which 1 flight is by Vietnam Airlines and 1 flight is by VietJet Air.
At the above meeting and connection, Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc Uy, representative of Bamboo Airways, informed that according to the plan, on April 29, Bamboo Airways will connect the West with Hanoi via the Ca Mau - Hanoi route and vice versa. The unit serves flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays every week before connecting flights between Da Nang and the West.
