John Giannandrea, Apple's senior vice president of machine learning and AI strategy, explained that running large language models (LLMs) requires a lot of computing power, so the devices running LLMs need to be fast and powerful enough to handle it. He admitted that in theory, older devices could run these models, but the processing speed would be so slow that it would no longer be useful.

With this explanation, many people think that Apple Intelligence will be an excuse for Apple to sell new devices, specifically to boost sales of the iPhone 15 Pro.
