Summer 2023 flight tickets are starting to heat up
Any cool down?
After the April 30 - May 1 holiday season was affected by high airfares, Kien Giang province and Phu Quoc city continuously proposed and requested units to cooperate, support, find solutions and airfare mechanisms to promote Phu Quoc tourism development. Although there has been no official announcement of solutions or agreements, according to a survey, airfares from Ho Chi Minh City to the pearl island in the upcoming summer have decreased sharply compared to the April 30 - May 1 holiday period.
For example, from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc in mid-June, Vietjet's lowest ticket price is about 2.5 million VND/round-trip ticket departing on Friday (June 14, returning June 18), about 60% compared to the holiday period of April 30 - May 1. On the same day, Vietravel Airlines only has 1 flight, priced at nearly 2.8 million VND/round-trip ticket. Pacific Airlines and Bamboo Airways have similar prices, ranging from 2.8 - 3.2 million VND/round-trip ticket. Although Vietnam Airlines still maintains the highest ticket price range - more than 3.2 - more than 3.7 million VND/round-trip ticket, it is still much cheaper than the 4.2 - 4.6 million VND/round-trip ticket during the last holiday season.
If you choose to fly on weekdays, you will be able to buy cheaper tickets: Vietjet is less than 2 million VND for a round trip ticket; Bamboo Airways is more than 2.3 million VND, Vietnam Airlines also has flights for only 1.2 million VND/way, equivalent to about 2.4 million VND for both round trip.
However, the ticket price from Hanoi to Phu Quoc is still very high, anchored at nearly 3.6 million VND/round trip ticket of Vietjet is the lowest, to the highest of Vietnam Airlines - more than 6.5 million VND.
Families flying from Hanoi to Nha Trang also have to pay exorbitant ticket prices. The departure date is June 16 and the return date is June 20. The cheapest ticket of Vietjet has increased to more than 3.7 million VND/round trip; Pacific Airlines continues to be on par with the price of about 4.5 million VND for both departure and return flights. Vietnam Airlines flights at that time have now increased to about 5.5 million VND. There are very few flights from Hanoi to Quy Nhon in mid-July. Bamboo Airways tickets range from 4.6 to 5.3 million VND/round trip; Vietnam Airlines from 5.5 to 5.8 million VND. From Hanoi to Con Dao from now until the end of August, there are only Bamboo Airways flights every day with prices ranging from 4.5 to 5.6 million VND/round trip.
As the route with the most flights and the "hottest" exploitation rate, the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route continues to hold the No. 1 position in terms of ticket prices. Most days, especially weekends from June to the end of August, Vietnam Airlines tickets are fixed at 5 - 6.3 million VND/round trip, only a few early morning or late night flights cost more than 4.1 million VND. Vietjet's lowest ticket price is also more than 3.4 million VND/way. Vietravel Airlines has only 1 flight per day, the round-trip ticket price is not lower than 3.6 million VND.
Phu Quoc is one of the domestic tourism hubs that is worried about "lack of customers" due to high airfares.
Continue the trend of traveling abroad?
Ms. Tran Thi Bao Thu, Marketing and Communications Director of Vietluxtour Travel Joint Stock Company, said that the summer tourism market this year may be more vibrant because foreign tourism routes have reopened as before the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourists have more choices in terms of products, prices and types of tourism. In the summer, tourists often prefer beach tourism and relaxing in the highlands, so beach destinations combined with complex entertainment venues will attract family tourists to "escape the heat".
It is predicted that Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Tuy Hoa, Nha Trang, Da Lat... are still popular domestic destinations for tourists. However, Vietluxtour currently records that the foreign tour market seems to be more vibrant for many reasons: Existing demand from the epidemic season, good prices on Southeast Asian routes, many new attractive routes opening in Northeast Asia... Domestic airfares "heating up" is also one of the factors affecting tourists' choices.
"Individual travelers this summer tend to book more outbound tours. MICE travelers are still concentrated in the country, but some also travel to some Southeast Asian routes. To have quality trips, travelers should plan early to choose a tour that suits their price and schedule, and to enjoy the benefits of early purchase programs," Ms. Bao Thu informed.
Similarly, TST Tourist also noted that tourists have a need to shift from domestic to international travel due to many factors affecting travel activities, especially airfares. In general, the stability of the domestic market is not high at present.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Man, Director of Communications - Marketing and Information Technology at TST Tourist, shared that since tourism reopened, the number of customers booking tours at TST Tourist has reached a ratio of 6 - 4, leaning towards tours taking tourists abroad. Tour routes with a large number of interested customers, "closing" tours very early include: Thailand, Taiwan, Dubai, Korea, Japan, Europe. It is forecasted that from next June, this ratio will increase even higher, when the Chinese market opens up more, further relaxing quarantine requirements for tourists.
“A budget of 5-6 million can choose to go to Thailand, Cambodia, while this amount of money is sometimes only enough to buy a plane ticket from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi; a little more money to go to Singapore, Malaysia; a higher budget can choose Korea, Japan; even higher can go to the US, Europe… The summer peak is extremely important to the Vietnamese tourism industry. If the number of international visitors cannot be compensated, the system of destinations, hotels, and restaurants will be very difficult” - Mr. Nguyen Minh Man worried.
