Phu Tho 10-year-old girl hospitalized due to high fever of 40 degrees, thought to have dengue fever but hospital examination revealed critical sepsis.
The family said that the child had a fever for a week with chest pain, and tried to treat it at home but it did not help, so they went to the medical center. There, the child was diagnosed with dengue fever and treated with antibiotics, but the disease became more severe, with multiple organ failure, and had to be transferred to a higher level for treatment.
On December 13, Dr. Dinh Xuan Hoang, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Hung Vuong General Hospital, said that the child had severe sepsis, multiple organ failure, and high fever, which could easily be mistaken for dengue fever. Sepsis complications due to flu are not common, but they progress quickly and severely, threatening the patient's life.
The doctor prescribed a blood transfusion, albumin infusion, and antibiotics according to the regimen. After 4 days, the child's fever and edema subsided, and organ functions gradually recovered. Continued monitoring is needed.
Sepsis or blood infection is a dangerous infection. Microorganisms will travel from the primary infection site through the blood to all parts of the body.
The cause of the disease is usually bacteria or viruses, fungi. They release toxins into the blood to fight the inflammatory reactions. These reactions will create many changes from the inside causing damage to other organs such as the liver and kidneys.
Parents need to distinguish this bacteria from whitmore, chickenpox, hand, foot and mouth disease... Do not self-treat at home for children when the cause is unknown. Many people also have a subjective mentality that the disease is not serious enough to go to the hospital, ignoring the golden time for treatment, causing the disease to become more severe. When children show the above signs, parents should take them to a medical facility for timely diagnosis and treatment.
