The method of calculating admission scores to grade 10 of public high schools from the 2025-2026 school year will change compared to before, the exams will not accept scores.
The above content is stated in the regulations on secondary and high school admissions recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Accordingly, the Ministry proposed a method to calculate the admission score to grade 10 of high school as the total score of 3 subjects or exams calculated on a 10-point scale for each subject.
In previous years, the regulations for middle school and high school admissions did not have a unified way of calculating admission scores, so each locality had a different way of calculating the exam coefficient. In particular, many localities stipulated that the coefficient was multiplied by 2 with the Math + Literature + 3rd subject exam or the Math + Literature + 3rd subject score was multiplied by 2...

The Ministry of Education and Training also stipulates 3 methods of admission to grade 10 high school: entrance exam, selection or a combination of entrance exam and selection. The selection of admission method is under the authority of the locality.
Regarding the entrance exam method for grade 10 high school, to ensure consistency and ensure the viewpoint of a light and inexpensive exam, the Circular stipulates that the whole country will conduct 3 exams, including: Math, Literature and the 3rd exam subject selected by the Department of Education and Training.
The third exam subject is selected from among the subjects or combined exams with scores in the secondary school general education program, ensuring that the same third exam subject is not selected for more than 3 consecutive years.
For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes that organize their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or a combination exam of a number of remaining subjects will be selected by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes directly managed by them.
The Circular also stipulates the announcement date for the third exam subject after the end of semester 1 (around the end of December) but no later than March 31 every year.
Regarding the exam time, the Circular stipulates that Literature is 120 minutes; Math is 90 minutes or 120 minutes; the third exam is 60 minutes or 90 minutes; and the combined exam is 90 minutes or 120 minutes.
The exam content is within the secondary school education program, mainly grade 9.
