Teaching the craft of pottery making of the M'nong ethnic group

On the morning of October 31, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a closing ceremony for the class teaching and practicing the craft of making handmade pottery of the M'nong ethnic group in Yang Tao commune (Lak district).

Participating in the class from October 17th until now, 20 students from 6 villages in Yang Tao commune have basically grasped the content taught by the artisans and started practicing.

The organizing committee awarded certificates of merit to outstanding students.

Up to now, most students have created ceramic products that ensure quality and aesthetics such as: elephants, buffaloes, bowls, cups, vases, jars, etc.; which can be sold on the market, serving the needs of consumers and satisfying the tastes of tourists.

Some students also researched and created many products with new designs, which were highly appreciated by artisans and tourists.

Previously, the Organizing Committee presented artisans and students with raw materials and tools for making pottery: a wooden mortar and pestle set, a basket for taking soil; bamboo rings; pebbles; smoothing cloth... to serve the learning process and long-term use in the locality.

At the Closing Ceremony, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded certificates to 20 students who completed the training course; and presented certificates of merit to 5 students with outstanding achievements.

It is known that the teaching class is part of the Project "Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development" (Project 6) under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

The training class aims to contribute to restoring, preserving and promoting the fine traditional values ​​of the craft of handmade pottery; opening up opportunities for the pottery profession here to develop in association with tourism; at the same time, propagating and educating the younger generation about pride and awareness of preserving the traditional culture of the nation.
