Through the documents and images at the Exhibition, the public will learn that on October 9, 1954, when the last colonial soldiers withdrew across Long Bien Bridge, our army and people completely controlled the city.
On the morning of October 10, 1954, the City Military Commission and military units divided into many groups to enter and take over Hanoi. More than four hundred thousand people in the capital were excited in the forest of flags and flowers, with extreme joy welcoming the victorious army back.

At 3 p.m. the same day, on behalf of the people of the whole country, the army and people of Hanoi participated in the flag-raising ceremony and listened to President Ho Chi Minh's letter: "For the past eight years, the Government had to leave the Capital to fight for national salvation. Although we are far apart, the Government's heart is always close to the people. Today, thanks to the unity of our army and people, our army fought bravely and the resistance was victorious. The Government has returned to the Capital with the people. Thousands of miles away, one home, the joy is indescribable... ".

Since that time, Hanoi - the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam has been cleared of enemies, and together with the whole country, has entered a new page of history. That pride and glory belongs to the heroic Vietnamese people, including the army and people of Hanoi - the direct resistance force in a special battlefield, at the center of the French colonial regime.
Under the leadership of the Party, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, with the correct resistance policy of "All-people, comprehensive, long-term resistance", the Party Committee, army and people of the Capital were steadfast in the struggle, the first one fell, the next one advanced, fought bravely and won gloriously, with the song of victory on the day of the Capital's liberation, full of faith and hope in the bright future of the Capital and the country.

70 years have passed, but the heroic memories of the days of fighting and taking over the capital are still deeply imprinted in the minds of the children of Hanoi. Every autumn, in the historic October days, somewhere on the roads and streets where the victorious army passed, the song "Marching to Hanoi" by the late musician Van Cao seems to still echo: " The army marches like waves / Layer upon layer of troops marches / We go to hear the joy of the enemy surrendering / The flags of the past fluttering on the streets...".
