Localities in the province actively plant trees along provincial and national roads.

According to statistics, the province has nearly 8,500 km of roads of all kinds, specifically: 72 km of expressways; 5 national highways with a length of over 456 km; 16 provincial roads with a length of over 969 km and more than 7,000 km of district roads, inter-commune and inter-village roads... Previously, some roads had trees planted on both sides but on a small scale, intermittently and locally; on the same national highway, provincial road passes through but each locality planted different types of trees. Not to mention, the terrain, soil conditions and harsh climate make planting, care and protection very difficult.

Therefore, from 2024, the Provincial Forest Protection Department has proposed to plant trees scattered on national highways, provincial roads, district roads, communes, inter-village roads and relic sites with tourism potential in the province. Planting trees will help protect traffic works, creating a highlight for the green, clean and beautiful environment. Mr. Vu Hong Diep, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department said: "We propose that the trees planted must ensure quality, be green all year round and be old trees. Therefore, 1 to 2 types of trees will be selected to plant, creating highlights for each route, for example, the route of royal poinciana flowers, lagerstroemia flowers... As for the spiritual area, we propose to plant old trees and trees of high economic value, precious timber trees to create sustainability".

On the newly opened route from Lao Cai city to Bao Thang district along the Red River, the Provincial Forest Protection Department has proposed planting kapok trees (kapok trees are often associated with rural and mountainous areas). In each locality, depending on specific conditions, suitable trees with regional characteristics will be selected for planting and creating highlights. During the implementation process, one of the difficulties that has arisen is not the lack of seedlings but that after planting, the trees must be cared for, protected, and ensure good growth... Therefore, the Provincial Forest Protection Department recommends that localities assign specific tasks to villages, communes, and people to plant, care for, and protect trees on each route to ensure quality.

The implementation of planting trees on both sides of roads and relic sites in the province has so far reached over 82% of the plan, with more than 244 thousand trees planted. Key routes that have received attention for planting many trees to create landscapes include: Bao Ha (Bao Yen) - Van Hoa (Lao Cai city); routes along the Red River from A Mu Sung to Y Ty (Bat Xat); new routes in Sa Pa town; historical relic sites in Bao Yen, Bao Thang, Bat Xat districts and Sa Pa town.

In Bao Yen district, despite being heavily affected by the circulation of storm No. 3, up to now, the locality has completed the planting of new landscape trees according to plan with more than 23 thousand scattered trees, equivalent to 118 km on National Highway 70, Provincial Road 160, district roads and inter-village roads. Of which, National Highway 70 planted 6 thousand trees (over 30 km), Provincial Road 160 planted 1 thousand new trees (over 5 km), including: flower lat, hong chan, phong linh. In addition, there are thousands of dổi, xoan, and trầu trees planted on district, commune and village roads...

Trees are planted along the road to create a green landscape for the environment.

Mr. Pham Hong Thai, Head of Bao Yen District Forest Protection Department, said: The number of trees planted above was mostly mobilized from socialized sources and a part of the local budget. Thanks to the active participation of the Party Committee and local authorities in propaganda work, mobilizing people to participate in planting, caring for and protecting, the trees along the roads have grown and developed well.

Mr. Vu Hong Diep, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, added: The Department and localities are continuing to promote propaganda, mobilizing organizations, individuals, agencies and units to actively participate in and respond to planting landscape trees. Along with that, focusing on guiding techniques for planting and caring for trees; advising and proposing to remove difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process, especially on roads being expanded and upgraded to soon hand over boundary markers for planting scattered trees.
