In fact, reading printed books is now only popular among a small number of young people, when the majority tend to look for quick and convenient means of receiving information such as ebooks, audiobooks or summary videos. Bao Ngoc - a student at the Academy of Journalism and Communication shared: "First of all, it is the issue of money to buy books, while using ebooks will be more economical, and you will have access to more books".

The explosion of digital technology has opened up many attractive entertainment options. In the hustle and bustle of studying, working and entertaining, the time spent on reading seems to be shrinking. In recent years, a new trend has been to search for information through artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Instead of reading a book from cover to cover, young people can use chatbots or AI software to "quickly query" the main ideas and core information. This is said to be able to change the way people approach knowledge and affect their critical thinking ability.
Master Huynh Ho Dai Nghia - Lecturer at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance shared: The choice is up to each person, but if we rely too much on AI, it will gradually erode the ability to choose. The daily abuse of AI will become a fixed reflex and eliminate proactive thinking and searching ability. The big challenge today is not the lack of books or lack of access channels, but the lack of long-term attachment between readers and books.
However, efforts to attract young people to printed books have not "disappeared". Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21) is not only an occasion to honor books and bookmakers, but also a reminder to the community, especially the young generation, of the importance of reading in spiritual and intellectual life. Aiming to spread the habit of reading and foster the spirit of lifelong learning, many response activities have been organized across the country. Along with that, the event "Nha Nam Book Festival: Welcome Summer 2025" with a series of books of diverse genres, attractive incentive programs and open interactive spaces has attracted the attention of young people. Not only stopping at buying books, many young people have also proactively participated in discussions, shared their personal reading perspectives and connected with people who share the same passion. The event takes place from April 16 - 20, 2025 in 3 major cities: Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
According to a representative of Nha Nam Book Company, young people's book selection habits may be based on communication from social networking platforms. In addition, eye-catching book cover designs and impressive titles also play an important role in attracting initial attention, inspiring and motivating young people to approach books.
In fact, the story of reading culture is not just the story of authors and publishers, but it is necessary to build a reading culture from schools and families. Mr. Le Hoang - Vice President of the Vietnam Publishing Association shared: "Schools are a very important part, but I also want to talk about the role of families. We are the ones responsible for helping our children, grandchildren, and younger siblings to come to books and form the habit of reading from the age of 5 or 6". At the same time, Mr. Hoang also suggested that schools need to include reading sessions in regular classes at all levels of the school. When the young generation truly loves and understands the core values of books, they can develop comprehensively in terms of intelligence, soul, and personality.
