The Medal “For Peace and Friendship among Nations” is to recognize the valuable contributions of Ms. Elisa Fernandez to the effective cooperation between the United Nations and Vietnam, as well as to the development of Vietnam, especially the advancement of Vietnamese women.

Speaking at the ceremony, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga said that more than 10 years ago, UN Women was established with the mission of promoting the well-being of women and girls around the world.
During her 5-year tenure as Country Representative since 2017, UN Women Vietnam has successfully implemented many programs and projects on national quality, women's rights, social security, and prevention and response to gender-based violence.
With her experience, dedication and enthusiasm, Ms. Elisa Fernandez has supported Vietnamese agencies and people's organizations to achieve gender equality, empower women and girls and implement the SDGs in a strong and effective manner.
She has launched numerous initiatives to enhance dialogue and coordination between governments, UN agencies and other stakeholders on gender equality as well as enhance participation and implementation of Viet Nam’s Peace and Security Agenda (WPS).
In particular, Ms. Elisa Fernandez initiated the Women's Leadership Dialogue series - a friendly space where women can exchange leadership experiences, and have the opportunity to listen and discuss with female leaders around the world.
President Nguyen Phuong Nga affirmed: “VUFO is honored to successfully co-organize the Dialogue Program "Women and Diplomacy: The Role of Women in Leadership and Management" with the participation of Ms. Elisa Fernandez as one of the speakers.
We are grateful to her for her strong support and active participation in people-to-people diplomacy activities organized by VUFO in recent times.”
At the ceremony, Ms. Elisa Ferdenanz, Chief Representative of UN Women in Vietnam, expressed her honor to receive VUFO's most prestigious award.
After her term in Vietnam, she said she will continue to support Vietnam and make contributions to promoting gender equality worldwide.
