According to Master, Doctor Hoang Manh Ha - Head of the Department of Orthopedic and Spinal Trauma Surgery, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases (Hanoi), during Tet, travel activities are different from normal days, so there are many potential risks of accidents due to firecrackers, traffic, and fighting.

Household accidents in the kitchen area are also quite common. When I was working at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital (Hanoi), I received emergency patients after chopping chicken because they cut their hands, and there was a case of severed limbs due to exploding firecrackers.

Recently, accidents caused by firecrackers have decreased, but there are still cases of adults and children buying or even producing firecrackers, leading to tragic incidents.

To prevent accidents during Tet, you need to be more vigilant. Families should regularly pay attention to and keep an eye on their children, clean the house to ensure safety, and not climb or reach too far.

In the kitchen, you need to keep away objects that can cause burns such as hot water and hot soup. When cutting or chopping food, make sure it is placed securely.

When traveling, absolutely obey traffic laws, do not drink alcohol while driving.

When an accident occurs, each type of wound requires different treatment:

1. For bleeding wounds, quickly stop the bleeding with clean gauze. If the bleeding cannot be stopped, apply a tourniquet and go to the nearest medical facility. If you are away for more than 15 minutes, loosen the tourniquet to allow blood to circulate.

2. Burns are a common accident and often occur in families. First aid for burns is to wash under clean or cold running water. If the burn is on the body with clothes, do not take off the clothes yourself but give first aid with water, then use a clean blanket to wrap the injured area and go to the emergency room.

3. Wounds caused by falls and broken legs or arms are easier to monitor. First aid is by immobilizing and splinting the fracture site.

In case of traumatic brain injury, it is necessary to monitor very carefully. If the victim has headache, dizziness, nausea, he should be taken to a medical facility immediately. In case there are no acute signs at the time of the fall, it is still necessary to monitor, epidural hematoma can appear slowly, more than 2-3 days later. In some subjects, it may be necessary to monitor from 1 to 3 months.

Special attention should be paid to elderly patients with underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. when an open wound appears, it is necessary to get a tetanus shot. After the injury, patients should see a specialist and take medication as prescribed by their doctor. Absolutely do not self-medicate to avoid unfortunate complications.
