Arouse pride
“Seeing my daughter, a student, wearing a purple ao dai, joining thousands of young people participating in the Guinness World Record for “The event with the largest number of participants wearing traditional Vietnamese costumes”, and then appearing on stage of the program Anh trai vu ngan cong gai, singing with other artists the song Mot vong Viet Nam, I was so moved. The children were very proud to wear traditional costumes and were conscious of preserving and spreading the cultural values of their country”, said Ms. Le Nguyen Thuy Duong (47 years old, living in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City).

Not only Ms. Thuy Duong, many people seem to be given a new source of energy when attending events related to honoring national costumes, witnessing many places on the streets crowded with people wearing Ao Dai, national costumes of regions, and Vietnamese traditional costumes.
Since the beginning of March, there have been a series of impressive programs such as: The 11th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, Art Tour + Ao Dai, The 5th Green Hair and Ao Dai Festival within the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Festival 2025... The activities have all taken place very vibrantly and diversely, creating large community festivals. If at the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival, the Bach Hoa Bo Hanh ancient costume parade program had 1,000 participants, then at the Guinness Record setting event, there were more than 5,000 people wearing national costumes.
Not to mention, the large audience attending the 2 nights of the concert Anh trai vu ngan cong gai all wore traditional costumes such as ao dai, ao ba ba, ao tu than, costumes of ethnic groups in the Northwest, Central Highlands... Young people especially love traditional Vietnamese costumes such as ao tac, ao giao linh, Nhat Binh... Or like at the Green Hair and Ao Dai Festival, in addition to young people, there was also the participation of the crew of the movie Detective Kien and beauty queens, runners-up, and singers. All wore traditional costumes of Vietnamese people through the ages, creating an impressive image.
Bridge between the past and the new era
Mr. Ton That Minh Khoi, representative of the Organizing Committee of the Green Hair and Ao Dai Festival, said that this is the first year the festival has organized a Vietnamese costume performance combined with a flashmob to the song One Round of Vietnam. The festival recreates historical stories through dramatization, helping the audience immerse themselves in a proud cultural atmosphere. The audience takes turns going through the legends of Ly Cong Uan moving the capital to Thang Long, Princess Huyen Tran of the Tran Dynasty, the spirit of the Lam Son uprising until the time of peace and prosperity...
In addition, the festival also brought the audience into a youthful atmosphere with fresh and innovative Vietnamese costumes. Besides, at the Youth Cultural House, young people also experienced cultural spaces such as: Vietnamese costume road, Vietnamese love songs, re-painting ancestors, Southern flavors... from traditional cultural practice units of many countries.
“This is not only a stage for Vietnamese costumes, but also a place where each step affirms the declaration that today's young generation is inheriting the heritage, continuing the cultural story in their own way. Vietnamese costumes are a very good movement among young people. Over time, young people appreciate the old dress and traditional costumes more,” Minh Khoi affirmed. Doctor Dang Thanh Hao (32 years old, working at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital) commented that the recent traditional costume parades have contributed to promoting the image of traditional Vietnamese costumes, especially the Ao Dai, to international friends, demonstrating the pride and determination of Vietnamese people in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values.
At the Green Hair and Ao Dai Festival, a discussion on “Vietnamese Costume Brands of the North - Central - South” was also held, emphasizing the need to pay attention to the accuracy of the reconstruction and reconstruction of ancient costumes. This requires the joint support of researchers on traditional costumes to designers and costume designers... to ensure the correct reproduction of the traditional features of ancient costumes. In addition, the renovation of ancient costumes to suit modern life was also mentioned, because integrating new things is necessary for the culture to last and spread, but it must ensure respect for the originals, because that is also respect for history.
