He thanked the film crew, saying the award was a door that opened up many opportunities for the country's cinema. The director said he regretted that the actors were not present due to scheduling conflicts.

"Mai" also won the award for Best Vietnamese Film. When receiving this award, Tran Thanh said that at first he was afraid of being placed with art films, because the jury's evaluation criteria often favored this genre of film. "That is also a difficult problem for filmmakers when trying to balance artistic elements and ticket sales. I really want to achieve that," he said.

The director thanked DOP Diep The Vinh and the female lead Phuong Anh Dao. He also hoped that next year, if there is a category for Best Supporting Actress, artist Hong Dao will be awarded. Finally, Tran Thanh thanked his wife - singer Hari Won for many nights of thinking about the script with him.

Phuong Anh Dao won the Best Actress award. Since the artist was not present, Tran Thanh went on stage to receive it on her behalf.

"Mai" revolves around the life of the female lead named Mai (Phuong Anh Dao), a nearly 40-year-old massage worker who accidentally meets musician Duong (Tuan Tran) and is pursued by him. Lacking self-confidence, Mai does not have the courage to accept the feelings of a guy seven years younger than her.

Tran Thanh moderated the scenes of arguing between characters, spoke softly, and controlled the pace of the film. Phuong Anh Dao was given a lot of "space" to act with segments that delved into her inner thoughts, such as the scene where she struggled to be a single mother, helpless when her child cried. In the supporting roles, Hong Dao was the highlight when she played Mrs. Dao - the person who always encouraged Mai to live her life to the fullest for love.

This year, the Vietnamese Film category did not have an award for Best Screenplay. The award for Best Actor went to Thai Hoa, who played the drunkard father named Xin in the film Con nhot mot chong . On stage, Thai Hoa thanked the crew, producers and audience for supporting the role.

He made an impression when he transformed into a character with a disheveled appearance and a slow walk. Xin believes that his life is a series of failures when his daughter is over the marriageable age and still hasn't married anyone. Trying to find a husband for his daughter, Xin witnesses her pain when her lover rejects her feelings.

In the Asian Film category, director Pham Ngoc Lan's film Coolie Never Cries won Best Film. Chinese-French filmmaker Dai Tu Kiet was surprised by the film's cinematic language. He said the film has many romantic, dreamy and realistic scenes, showing the director's sophistication. "I think Pham Ngoc Lan is a good director and will develop brilliantly in the future," said Dai Tu Kiet.

The film tells the story of Mrs. Nguyen (played by Minh Chau) who returns to Vietnam from Europe with the inheritance of her deceased husband's coolie. Besides facing the past that seemed buried, Mrs. Nguyen worries about the future of her niece, when she hastily marries after accidentally getting pregnant with her boyfriend's child.

Before winning the award at the event, the film won the Best First Film award at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival with a prize of 50,000 euros. The film's crew plans to release it domestically in mid-September.
