On the morning of September 20, at Saigon University (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to summarize the tasks of political education and student affairs, sports activities and school health in the 2023-2024 school year; and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Luyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Political and Ideological Affairs (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training) said that in the 2023-2024 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has proactively and creatively organized many activities to educate political ideology, revolutionary ideals, ethics and lifestyle and build school culture for students.
According to statistics, by the end of the 2023-2024 school year, educational institutions had organized training and admitted 38 outstanding students and union members into the Communist Party of Vietnam. This is an activity that Party cells and school principals are interested in implementing to foster the spirit and revolutionary ideals of students at educational institutions.
In particular, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has piloted a model to honor outstanding students. In the 2023-2024 school year, each Department of Education and Training will have 1 primary school and 1 secondary school, while at the high school level, there will be 10 high schools and vocational education and continuing education centers piloting the model.
According to a report from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2023-2024 school year, 100% of kindergartens and primary schools in Ho Chi Minh City have arranged staff in charge of school health work.
Of which, 76.68% of schools have medical staff with medical expertise (including 46.14% of medical staff with medical or intermediate medical qualifications and 28.54% of medical staff with nursing, pharmacist, midwifery, or technician qualifications).
In addition, 25.32% of schools have a person in charge of school health work but without medical expertise.
The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requires schools that, due to objective reasons, have not been able to recruit full-time medical staff to assign part-time staff to be the focal point for monitoring school health work, and at the same time sign contracts with medical facilities and medical examination and treatment facilities in the area to implement school health work.
On that basis, in the 2024-2025 school year, the education sector aims to improve facilities and personnel to ensure full implementation of the contents and tasks specified in Circular No. 33/2021/TT-BYT (dated December 31, 2021) of the Ministry of Health on school health work in higher education institutions and vocational education institutions.
Speaking at the summary conference, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu requested leaders of the Department of Education and Training and principals of schools to focus on political and ideological education, thereby contributing to improving the effectiveness of comprehensive education for students.
One of the outstanding results highly appreciated by the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City in the past school year was the successful development of the "Happy School" criteria set and the piloting of the student honoring model.
In particular, the criteria for building a "Happy School" aim to create a foundation for uniting forces in the school, thereby creating a good learning environment, making every day at school a happy day for students and teachers.
The pilot model of honoring students is not based on academic achievements or scores, but aims to discover and honor efforts to surpass oneself, good examples of good people and good deeds among students.
Along with that, political and ideological education activities for students are not only through theoretical lessons but also through many diverse activities, developing the talents and strengths of students.
The Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requested schools to promote the models of "Happy School", "Digital School" and "Smart School" to create an advanced and modern educational environment, pay attention to spiritual factors, and encourage proactive participation of learners.
On this occasion, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City awarded certificates of merit to 38 collectives and individuals who excellently completed the tasks of political and ideological education and student affairs, sports activities and school health in the 2023-2024 school year.
