Since early November, large retail and distribution businesses in Ho Chi Minh City have started preparing goods for the year-end shopping season and the Lunar New Year 2025.
Mr. Lam Quoc Thanh, General Director of SATRA, a large supplier of food and consumer goods in the city, said that the value of essential goods that the Satra retail system reserves for 2 months before, during and after Tet At Ty 2025 (including New Year's Eve) is estimated to increase by 15-20% compared to Tet Giap Thin 2024. The company has proactively worked with suppliers to ensure prices and supply when there is demand for products in each field.

Currently, Satramart supermarkets and Satrafoods convenience store chain have plans to stock up on Tet goods, focusing on food and market stabilization products, and are committed to not allowing shortages or sudden price increases.
According to Mr. Thanh, for the price stabilization group, this year's reserve increased by 6-14% depending on the group, the remaining items had different increases, from 4-18%.
In particular, fresh food groups, including vegetables, fruits, meats, beer and soft drinks, will see their reserves increase due to high demand during Tet.
SATRA member companies such as Binh Dien Market and Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (VISSAN) are also required to have plans to prepare sources of vegetables, fruits, seafood, and meat of livestock and poultry... to fully supply to retail units in the system.
Major retailer Saigon Co.op has also planned to stockpile goods for Tet At Ty worth 10,000 billion VND, an increase of 20-50% depending on the product group compared to the normal business month, to meet the needs of the city's residents. The priority product group with large reserves is market stabilization goods including rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry, poultry eggs, processed foods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood. Next are food items, non-food items, and Tet specialties.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Deputy General Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op), said that the company has a plan to coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to increase reserves by 30-40% compared to normal days in the group of essential goods.
It is predicted that this year, the group of products serving ordinary workers will consume strongly, so Saigon Co.op will focus on boosting supply. In addition to low prices, promotional programs are also continuously applied to stimulate purchasing power.
MM Mega Market also informed that it has worked with suppliers to reserve large quantities of goods very early.
At Vissan, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Khoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said that the company is increasing production to supply nearly 1,200 tons of fresh food and 4,000 tons of processed food per day to more than 120,000 points of sale nationwide. In addition, Vissan has also reserved an additional 10-20% of output to prepare for peak shopping needs, and to prepare for cases of goods shortages and sudden supply shortages.
For Tet goods alone, VISSAN plans to supply the market with nearly 930 tons of fresh food and 3,700 tons of processed food (an increase of about 5-8% compared to the Giap Thin Tet). This year, factories and production workshops have prepared raw materials very early to meet consumer demand.

Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, said that in addition to inspecting and controlling the market of goods for Tet, the Department of Industry and Trade also coordinates with relevant agencies, branches and distribution systems in the area to negotiate preferential discount policies, helping to reduce price pressure, especially for essential goods during the peak month of Tet.
Ho Chi Minh City is entering the year-end shopping season, with many consumer stimulus programs. The second phase of the "Shopping Season 2024" program started yesterday, November 15, and will last until December 31. This program has been positively responded to by consumers not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also in the Southeast region, because it falls during the big shopping season, when workers have the need to spend and shop for their families to welcome the new year.
By the end of October 2024, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in Ho Chi Minh City had increased by more than 10%, reaching VND979,052 billion. Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu added that from now until the end of the year, the Department of Industry and Trade will focus on promoting trade to support businesses in expanding their consumption markets for the end of 2024 and early 2025.
