Ho Chi Minh City: Construction of metro line 2 project Ben Thanh - Tham Luong begins
On February 17, at Ben Thanh Station, the Management Board of Urban Railways (MAUR) organized the construction of the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro line 2 project in the year of the Dragon 2024.
The project to build metro line No. 2 Ben Thanh - Tham Luong was approved by the City People's Committee in Decision No. 4474/QD-UBND dated October 11, 2010 and approved for adjustment in Decision No. 4880/QD-UBND dated November 14, 2019 with a total investment of VND 47,890.84 billion, using ODA loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and counterpart funds from the budget.

Mr. Bui Anh Huan, Deputy Head of MAUR, said that the project is more than 11 km long (of which the underground section is more than 9 km long; the elevated section is nearly 2 km long) with 10 stations (9 underground stations, 1 elevated station).

The project passes through 6 districts: 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, Tan Phu with a total recovered area of 251,136 m2, total compensation and support costs are 3,753,610 billion VND . Up to now, the land handover rate has reached 86.69% (508/586 cases).

Previously, On June 22, 2023, MAUR held a groundbreaking ceremony for technical infrastructure works for the electricity category. Up to now, the relocation of technical infrastructure works has completed the selection of contractors for the relocation and reconstruction of water supply, drainage, lighting, signs, and traffic lights in December 2023.

MAUR announced that the project's technical infrastructure relocation has met the conditions for simultaneous construction and requested contractors to urgently mobilize workers and construction equipment.

MAUR also requested the drainage contractor to coordinate with water and electricity contractors to carry out construction work immediately after the ceremony to ensure the progress agreed upon by all parties with the basic goal of completing the relocation of technical infrastructure works in 2024 to be ready for handover to the main contractor for tunnel and station construction in 2025.
