The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) has investigated the patient's travel history and compiled a list of people who had close contact with the patient within 21 days before the onset of the disease. According to the epidemiological investigation, the patient is a permanent resident of Binh Chanh District and has not been recorded as having had contact with foreigners or traveled abroad recently.

People who have been in close contact with the patient have been notified and are required to self-monitor their health at home for 21 days. If they have any suspected symptoms, they should immediately report to the health station. In addition, people living with the patient have been instructed to clean and disinfect the entire house, room, and personal belongings of the patient. Those who have been in contact are currently in normal health, with no signs of illness recorded.

The case of the patient with monkeypox who was previously residing in Ho Chi Minh City (patient 3) is still being isolated and treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, and is in stable health. Except for one person who was in close contact with this person in Binh Duong who contracted monkeypox, the remaining contacts have not shown any signs of the disease.

In Vietnam, monkeypox is a group B infectious disease. Since the first case was detected from abroad in 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has directed HCDC and hospitals, clinics... to carry out surveillance and communication activities to prevent the spread of the disease.

The health sector recommends that people who discover that they or those around them have symptoms of suspected monkeypox should immediately go to medical facilities for consultation, diagnosis and proper treatment. Sick people need to strictly follow the instructions of medical staff in caring for and treating themselves, minimizing complications as well as strictly implementing infection prevention measures. Sick people also need to coordinate communication with those in close contact with them to detect symptoms early and prevent the spread.

The Department of Health cited information from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that as of September 27, 2023, there were 90,630 confirmed cases of monkeypox worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there has been a sharp increase in new monkeypox cases in Thailand and China, most of the patients are young men, most of whom have sex with men.
