On the morning of February 13, a group of parents from Wellspring Saigon International Bilingual School reported to Tuoi Tre Online about the incident that occurred at the students' lunch on February 12.
Accordingly, during the lunch break on February 12, a student discovered larvae crawling in the tray of his pan-fried salmon. He screamed and showed it to other students.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of February 13, a leader of Wellspring Saigon International Bilingual School confirmed that the incident happened during lunchtime on February 12. A 7/6 grade student discovered larvae in his lunch tray, specifically in the compartment containing the pan-fried salmon dish (each tray has many different compartments - PV).
"As soon as we received the information, the kitchen department reviewed the entire preparation process according to the menu for the day, including: vegetable soup with minced meat, spaghetti with minced beef sauce, salmon sauteed with rosemary, white rice, mashed potatoes, egg salad, red plums (for primary school students), Phan Rang green apples (for secondary school students).
Through inspection, the school determined that the larvae were likely to come from green apples (because the apple compartment was next to the pan-fried salmon compartment). Because apples are fresh fruits that are susceptible to the risk of natural larvae even after being processed. When re-checking the remaining apples in the distribution area, the kitchen staff also discovered that some apples had larvae," the leader said.
According to a representative of Wellspring Saigon International Bilingual School: "Green apples were chosen to be added to the students' lunch menu to provide diversity, richness and ensure the best source of nutrition for the students. However, to limit similar risks in the future, the school will temporarily stop using this type of fruit that is at risk. Instead, use peeled fruits.
In addition, we also checked the remaining dishes, especially the pan-fried salmon dish. This is a dish prepared in 3 steps with strict standards, fully cooked at high temperatures, so there is little risk of live larvae remaining."
Invite authorities to inspect boarding meals
"The school has proactively invited the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety and local police to investigate and make a final conclusion about the incident. We have also sent an email to all parents to inform them about the incident that occurred in the lunch for students in grade 7/6 on February 12," the leader of Wellspring Saigon International Bilingual School confirmed to Tuoi Tre Online.
