"You are an emotional boy. I know you will miss your home, your grandparents, your parents... a lot. But I believe you and your teammates will overcome difficulties and hardships and successfully complete your mission for the Fatherland," Mrs. Thuan (89 years old) encouraged her grandson on the day he enlisted.

At 6:30 a.m., a light drizzle passed by, making Hanoi's weather even colder. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuan (89 years old, living in Lang Ha ward, Dong Da, Hanoi) tied her white hair in a bun, put on a warm pink coat and went to Hoang Cau stadium (Dong Da) to see off her grandson Nguyen Manh Tuan (23 years old) to join the People's Public Security force.

In the crowded crowd at the military handover ceremony today (February 13), Mrs. Thuan chose to wear a pink shirt with the wish to "bring good, positive, loving things to her beloved grandson".

Before the moment her grandson left for the army, Mrs. Thuan couldn't help but feel reluctant, constantly holding his hands tightly, carefully buttoning his shirt, worried that he would be cold.

"You are an emotional boy, I know you will miss home, your grandparents and parents a lot. But two years in the army will pass quickly.

The barracks is my second home. The police environment with the commander, teammates, and training ground will train me to become stronger and more resilient.

"I believe that you and your teammates will overcome difficulties and hardships to successfully complete your mission for our beloved Fatherland," Mrs. Thuan kindly advised and encouraged her grandson.

She said her family has a revolutionary tradition, many people work in the army, she herself is a soldier in Dien Bien.

When she learned that her grandson volunteered to perform his duty as a People's Police officer, she was "very happy because he will have a new environment to experience and train to mature and strive to follow the revolution," said Ms. Thuan.

According to Ms. Thuan, new recruit Nguyen Manh Tuan graduated from the Information Technology Department of the University of Water Resources. Tuan has also just been admitted to the Party.

Although his family has a military tradition and no one is in the police force, Tuan's major in information technology "seems more suitable for striving to become a police officer". The 23-year-old man also loves the green color of the police force's uniform, so he is determined to join the People's Police.

"I just hope that during his years in the military, Tuan will be trained to become a good citizen, and later fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, contributing to the country so that the efforts of the officers and units who trained and educated him will not be in vain," said Mrs. Thuan, rubbing her wrinkled hand on her grandson's back.

Standing next to his grandmother, new soldier Nguyen Manh Tuan shared that to have a happy and prosperous life like today, many generations of young people have bravely fought and sacrificed themselves to protect the Fatherland.

"In this time of peace, I, as well as other young people, have the duty and obligation to preserve and protect the achievements of the revolution, so I volunteered to join the army," Tuan said.

Although he has to be away from his family and will have to undergo strenuous training in the coming months, rookie Tan promises to "resolve the sun and rain and practice diligently" to successfully complete his mission and strive to become a professional police officer.

Like new recruit Nguyen Manh Tuan, this morning (February 13), many young men in Hanoi as well as across the country attended the military handover ceremony, setting off on their sacred mission to protect the Fatherland.

In joy, pride mixed with tears, relatives, friends, and lovers gave tight hugs and warm kisses to send off the new recruits to join the army.
