This morning, February 13, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training held a ceremony to announce the decision to reorganize Chu Van An High School into Chu Van An Specialized High School.
Leaders of Hanoi Department of Education and Training presented the decision to the Board of Directors of Chu Van An High School for the Gifted.
Chu Van An High School was established in 1908. Since 2010, the school has opened a specialized training model with 10 specialized subjects. Currently, in addition to specialized classes, the school also has non-specialized classes, French bilingual classes, and international dual degree classes.
Every year, the percentage of specialized high school students passing the university entrance exam reaches over 90%. Chu Van An High School is always in the top 40 schools with the highest university entrance exam rate in the country and is in the top 10 schools with the highest quality of education in the capital.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the school has 2,343 students in 62 classes, including 35 specialized classes. The students, mainly specialized class students, continue to affirm the school's educational quality...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhiep, Principal of the school, affirmed: "With the specialized school model, each person working and studying at Chu Van An specialized school will have to be more diligent, more dedicated and more professional to be worthy of the school's tradition and the trust of society, of leaders at all levels, of parents and students".
"Being recognized as a specialized school is not the destination but the beginning of a new, more difficult journey, but it is an inevitable journey," Ms. Nhiep acknowledged.
Research on applying the middle school model in specialized schools
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, suggested that it is necessary to develop and implement a development roadmap for Chu Van An High School for the Gifted for each school year, in accordance with current regulations.
Specifically, from the 2025-2026 school year, the school will only enroll students in specialized classes; consult and report to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training on the number of specialized subjects and specialized classes; research and propose specialized subjects that do not yet exist or increase the number of specialized subjects that are strengths.
Also this school year, the school continues to review the quantity and quality of the staff to perfect the team, meeting the requirements of a specialized school. Pay attention to ensuring the quality of education for the remaining non-specialized classes.
By the 2027-2028 school year, when the last non-specialized classes of the school graduate from high school, 100% of the school's classes will only have specialized classes.
"From this school year, in addition to continuing to improve the quality of specialized subjects, the school needs to consider establishing professional clubs in the fields of sports, arts, diplomacy, and economics," Mr. Cuong suggested.
From the 2029 - 2030 school year, The school has 60 specialized classes. Every year, the school continues to review and supplement the school's educational plan, including 13 specialized subjects, and educational plans for a number of gifted clubs in different fields. The school has begun implementing the Vietnamese studies program and a number of international certificate training programs.
Notably, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training requested Chu Van An High School for the Gifted to research and advise on applying the middle school model in specialized schools.
According to Mr. Tran The Cuong: "This is something we really want because for the past 23 years, this model has existed at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and through evaluation, it shows that the quality of education is very good. Generations of students have grown up, participated in many national and international competitions and achieved high results."
Therefore, Mr. Cuong said, the Department of Education and Training is currently basing on the Capital Law to guide the operations of secondary schools belonging to specialized schools, including Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (which is having to stop enrolling in grade 6 of secondary schools from 2024 - PV).
Previously, on January 15, the Hanoi People's Committee issued decisions to reorganize Chu Van An High School into Chu Van An High School for the Gifted and Son Tay High School into Son Tay High School for the Gifted. Thus, up to now, Hanoi has 4 specialized high schools under the Department of Education and Training.
