For foreign languages, many universities only accept international certificates for admission. Vietnamese VSTEP certificates are not accepted.

VSTEP is an abbreviation for the English phrase "Vietnamese Standardized Test of English Proficiency", which means the English proficiency test according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam (from level 1 to level 6) equivalent to levels A1 to C2 of the European reference framework.
Vietnam's 6-level foreign language certificate is accepted in most fields from civil service exams, rank promotion, university and graduate admission... However, many universities do not accept this foreign language certificate when considering admission.
Most major universities today only consider international language certificates. For English, most schools only accept IELTS and TOEFL certificates.
For example, with the admission method combining high school graduation exam results with international language certificates in English or French, Hanoi Medical University only accepts IELTS or TOEFL certificates.
Similarly, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy only accepts IELTS certificates for admission based on high school graduation exam results combined with English certificates. The University of Transport also only accepts IELTS certificates for combined admission.
At Foreign Trade University, in the admission method combining international certificates, English only accepts IELTS and TOEFL certificates. The University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also only accepts IELTS and TOEFL English certificates when calculating priority points in admission.
National Economics University accepts TOEIC English certificate in addition to IELTS and TOEFL for combined admission method.
Universities that consider IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC certificates all have specific regulations on minimum scores. Some schools also specify scores for each skill: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
For example, with the TOEIC certificate, the National Economics University requires a minimum score of 785 for listening and reading, 160 for speaking, and 150 for writing) or higher.
Some schools accept VSTEP foreign language certificate
Besides universities that only consider international language certificates, many large universities accept VSTEP language certificates when considering university admission.
For example, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in addition to popular certificates such as IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, also considers a series of other foreign language certificates, including VSTEP. This is the university with the largest number of English certificates accepted for admission today.

In the South, Banking University accepts 5 English certificates for admission, including VSTEP certificate. Saigon University accepts the use of test results of IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Linguaskill, Aptis, VSTEP English certificates converted into English admission scores in the admission groups.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade also allows candidates to convert foreign language certificates into foreign language scores in the admission combination. This university accepts VSTEP certificates when converting.
