Independence Square area will be renovated in the near future, creating a highlight for Hai Duong City.

The renovation area is about 10,155 m2 , belonging to Nguyen Trai, Quang Trung and Tran Hung Dao wards. The city will dismantle the old roundabout island and arrange a new roundabout island in an oval shape, extending towards Hong Quang street to suit the actual landscape view. The road surface surrounding the island is arranged with a maximum of 4 lanes. The existing road surface and sidewalks are also renovated, the area around the island and the ends of the branches connecting to the intersection are painted with lane markings, new signs are added, and a lighting system is installed...

The project will be implemented in 2024 and 2025, with a cost of nearly 4.9 billion VND from the city budget.

The renovation of the island's landscape architecture has its own project.

Historically, Independence Square is associated with many important events. During the Minh Mang period, this was the land located between Dong Mon. In 1923, the French built a small flower garden with four large arched gates facing four directions. In 1933, when King Bao Dai passed by here, this flower garden was named Bao Dai Flower Garden, then the name Bao Dai Square appeared and later changed to Independence Square.
