A reader sent a question to Tuoi Tre Online 's admissions mailbox: "I was born in 2004, graduated from high school in 2022 and just returned from military service. So in 2025, will I be considered for admission to university using my high school transcripts from the previous 3 years?"

Admission based on transcripts must use the results of the entire 12th grade year.

Up to this point, the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet issued the university admission regulations for 2025 (only the draft regulations have been announced). Therefore, universities have only announced expected regular university admission information, with some changes according to the draft admission regulations.

The method of considering high school transcripts (considering the results of each semester of high school) was previously one of the early admission methods (considering before the high school graduation exam results were available), used by many universities. In particular, in previous years, most non-public schools considered transcripts in many different rounds and reserved quite a lot of quotas for this method.

According to the latest information from the Ministry of Education and Training, from the 2025 admission season, early admission will be completely eliminated (only direct admission according to regulations). If using high school academic results (report cards) for admission, the results of the entire 12th grade year must be used.

Regarding the high school transcript admission method, many schools have announced that they will no longer consider transcripts, but it is expected that in 2025, many universities will still use this admission method, and some schools will even increase their admission quota based on transcripts.

How do schools consider transcripts?

For the admission method based on transcripts, most schools do not limit the year of high school graduation of candidates applying for admission. However, each school has different specific regulations on admission conditions and criteria. Therefore, candidates need to carefully research the specific admission information of the school they wish to apply for based on transcripts.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has an integrated admission method using high school results in grade 12 plus additional criteria. Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade also continues to consider admission using high school results (transcripts).

This year, the Academy of Journalism and Communication will increase the admission quota based on academic records. The Academy will consider the academic results of 6 semesters, and is expected to reserve 20% of the admission quota, an increase of 5% compared to last year.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has a method of selecting candidates with good academic results (based on high school transcripts) with 40% - 50% of the target.

Admission scores are converted from 5 criteria, of which 1 is mandatory and 4 are optional. Of which, mandatory criteria: Average score of the subject combination registered for admission calculated according to grade 10, grade 11 and grade 12 from 6.50 or higher.

Foreign Trade University will also consider admission using high school academic results (academic transcripts) when meeting the guaranteed conditions. The school considers admission according to 3 groups:

Firstly, the group of candidates are students who participated/won prizes in the national excellent student competition or the national science and technology competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Training (including subjects such as mathematics, information technology, physics, chemistry, literature, English, French, Chinese, Russian, Japanese). In this group, candidates must achieve good or higher learning and training results for 6 semesters.

Second, the group of candidates are specialized students in math, math-IT, IT, physics, chemistry, literature, English, French, Chinese, Russian, Japanese at national key high schools/specialized high schools.

Third, the group of candidates are non-specialized students who won prizes (first, second, third) in provincial/city-level excellent student competitions for grade 11 or grade 12 (including subjects such as math, information technology, physics, chemistry, literature, English, French, Chinese, Russian, Japanese).

For groups 2 and 3, candidates must meet the conditions of having good academic results for 6 semesters and good training or higher; having a total score of 3 graduation exam subjects of 24 points or higher (including priority points)...

Ho Chi Minh City National University still prioritizes admission based on high school transcripts

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will continue to prioritize admission based on academic records, with priority given to excellent students from 149 schools, integrating multiple criteria (foreign language certificates, other activities) with high school academic results.

The list of 149 high schools remains stable as in 2024.
