Recently, the circus show Mysterious Land has become a hit in Ho Chi Minh City. For the first time, a Vietnamese circus show has been searched a lot on TikTok, attracting hundreds of thousands of views per clip and receiving positive feedback from viewers and experts.

Initially, the circus was scheduled to have 18 shows, performed over 10 days of Lunar New Year. However, due to the heat and cheers of the audience, the shows were continuously sold out. The circus decided to open an additional show until March 23.

Present at Gia Dinh Park Circus (Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) at 7:30 p.m. on February 14, a group of Dan Tri reporters recorded the scene of the entrance gate packed with audiences waiting to watch the show. Not only attracting family audiences, Mysterious Land also attracted many young people of Gen Z to watch.

The Mysterious Land has a duration of nearly 2 hours, directed by Meritorious Artist Le Dien, performed by artist Nguyen Phi Son as professional consultant, director Nguyen Quoc Cong and the cast of Phuong Nam Art Theater.

Right from the beginning, the play creates a dramatic atmosphere when it is set in a village where the villagers are bewildered by a sudden drought. From here, the main characters Tung and Mon embark on an adventure to the giant world to find the 5 rain-calling stones Kim - Moc - Thuy - Hoa - Tho according to the legend of "the drum calling the sky".

Thanks to its tight plot and script, The Mysterious Land makes viewers unable to take their eyes off. The performances of each element are arranged reasonably, with quiet moments and climaxes, pushing the audience's surprise and emotions to the highest level.

Many audiences are surprised that modern circus focuses on the content of the script, instead of simply showing off acrobatic techniques as traditionally conceived.

The perfect coordination of 24 artists is one of the factors that made the success of Mysterious Land. Besides the two main characters, Tung and Mon, the actors each have a role but coordinate smoothly, from stacking people, keeping balance, swinging on ropes to dancing, all creating an eye-catching scene.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, director Nguyen Quoc Cong said that the choreographer and cast practiced hard for 3 months to complete difficult techniques and explore new things.

According to Mr. Cong, the actors not only performed techniques but also combined acting, dancing, and storytelling through body language. Some performances of group rope swinging, juggling with balls, giant stick puppetry, etc. made a strong impression on the audience because of their novelty and modernity.

In addition, the sound, lighting, stage design and props are the highlights of the circus. Throughout the 2 hours, the audience's applause and cheers continuously resounded in the stands, expressing surprise and delight at the eye-catching staging and spectacular visual effects on stage.

Screenwriter Thuc Tram - author of Mysterious Land - shared that the creativity of 3D images, sounds, and props in each Kim - Moc - Thuy - Hoa - Tho scene is the different factor that helps the circus attract young audiences.

The Water screen impresses with the giant Water goddess character, the Fire screen is the Fire King dancing with fire, the Metal screen is a beautiful laser stick dance, the Wood screen is a 6m tall Stone god...

Storytelling through images, light, and music helps the stage become a mysterious and poetic world, creating valuable moments for artists and audiences.

The performers gave it their all, giving the circus extra points for the audience. At the end of the show, hundreds of children and their families rushed onto the stage to take photos with the artists. With sweat on their faces, the circus performers smiled brightly, happy to be welcomed by the audience.

"After the show, I wondered if the audience was satisfied with our performance. But at the end of the show, people came down to ask questions, take pictures, and I know the audience felt the money they spent was worth it.

I don't want people to think that circus is just about animal circus or sword-swallowing magic like in the past. Circus nowadays can tell good stories and combine many art forms. I hope that Mysterious Land is a new step forward, a stepping stone for artists to promote modern circus to more audiences," actress Tran Thi Thu - who plays the role of Mon - shared with Dan Tri reporter.
