Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol refuses to acknowledge the investigation but agrees to participate in questioning to avoid bloodshed.
Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol released a video statement about his arrest on the morning of January 15. Investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) of senior officials stormed Yoon's residence in Yongsan District, central Seoul this morning to execute an arrest warrant, serving the investigation into the declaration of martial law late last year.

"To prevent unfortunate incidents and violence, I decided to appear before the CIO even though I believe the investigation is illegal," Yoon said in a video recorded at his residence, according to Yonhap.
Investigators arrested Mr. Yoon on charges of rebellion related to the declaration of martial law. He is the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested.
Mr. Yoon's side denied the accusations and did not recognize the legality of the investigation, saying that the CIO had no authority.
Mr. Yoon regretted what he called the “illegal and invalid” process of issuing the arrest warrant. “The rule of law has completely collapsed in this country. Although I am facing disadvantages, I sincerely hope that no citizen will suffer injustice in future criminal cases,” said Mr. Yoon, who was South Korea’s former chief prosecutor.
Mr. Yoon also thanked his supporters and said his final words before leaving his residence: "I will fight with the people to the end."
On January 3, investigators executed an arrest warrant but were thwarted by Presidential Security Service (PSS) agents and soldiers guarding the compound. This time, investigators encountered only minor trouble from pro-Yoon protesters outside the leader’s residence.
Mr. Yoon Suk Yeol can be detained for 48 hours and investigators can request an extension of the detention period.
