Algeria is located in North Africa, is the country with the 4th largest economy in Africa. Algeria's population is relatively large, more than 46 million people. Although Vietnam and Algeria are geographically far apart, the two countries are always connected by historical similarities, a common aspiration for peace, national independence, and building a prosperous and happy country.

Regarding trade relations between Vietnam and Algeria, they began to appear clearly since 1975. According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria, since 2001, Vietnam's exports to this North African country have made significant progress, reaching a peak of nearly 300 million USD in 2017 (according to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs).

Vietnam's exports to Algeria are mainly agricultural products such as coffee, rice, pepper and seafood, industrial products such as mobile phones, footwear, textiles, iron and steel products, etc.

Up to now, Algeria is an important partner of Vietnam in the African market and is the 4th largest export market in this market.

According to statistics from Algerian Customs, trade between the two countries will reach about 300 million USD in 2023, an increase of 68% compared to 2022. In the first 9 months of 2024, our country's export turnover to Algeria will reach 138.8 million USD, down 18.6% over the same period last year. Vietnam's main export items include coffee, reaching 95.16 million USD (-15.9%), chemicals 5.2 million USD, seafood 3.85 million USD, pepper 1.9 million USD, other goods...

The Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria was established in November 1977, concurrently responsible for five other African markets: Gambia, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Tunisia. The office undertakes many important tasks to help promote and develop economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria.

In recent times, contributing to promoting bilateral trade cooperation, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria has always closely followed and strictly implemented the working regulations of the Vietnam Trade Office as well as the Law on Vietnamese Representative Agencies Abroad, focusing on policy consulting and supporting businesses of the two countries.

Accordingly, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria is always interested in analyzing the market situation, import-export management policies and economic - trade, industrial and investment policies affecting Vietnam and proposing solutions and policies to promote trade, industry, investment and other fields.

At the same time, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria also promotes the organization of import and export goods exhibitions, builds close relationships with trade promotion organizations, importers' associations, establishes trader profiles, grasps needs to propose trade promotion measures, boosts exports to increase the export turnover of Vietnamese goods to the local market as well as concurrent markets.

In addition, the Trade Office regularly provides information to businesses on both sides as well as supports working delegations and businesses visiting the area; guides businesses in resolving disputes and complaints in accordance with international law. In particular, it coordinates well with units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria as well as other agencies and units.

Outstanding activities of the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria in 2024

In 2024, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria participated in and supported businesses in many important export promotion programs. For example, participating in the 55th Alger International Fair (FIA 55) held in June 2024 at the Pins Maritimes Exhibition and Fair Palace, Alger (Algeria) to introduce and promote Vietnamese goods. This is the largest multi-industry trade event in Algeria with a booth area of ​​up to 25,000m2 and 638 exhibitors, of which half are for foreign businesses from 30 countries.

In order to promote economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Algeria in general and Jijel province in particular, on July 11, 2024, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria organized a working trip to this locality. On this occasion, Commercial Counselor Hoang Duc Nhuan introduced the economic and foreign trade situation of Vietnam, and the trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

In August 2024, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria hosted a workshop to connect direct and online trade between Vietnamese enterprises and Algerian and Tunisian enterprises. Attending the event were representatives of more than 80 agencies and enterprises, including 40 enterprises, associations and chambers of commerce from the above countries and 40 Vietnamese enterprises operating in the fields of production, business, import and export of agricultural products - food, aquatic products,

From September 30, 2024 to October 4, 2024, the Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Algeria visited Tunisia. During his stay in Tunisia, the Trade Office representative worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Overseas Tunisians, the Ministry of Trade and Export Development, the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts (UTICA) and coordinated with UTICA to organize an online trade seminar connecting businesses of the two countries.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria also organized a working program in the Senegalese market from November 25 to 29, 2024. During its stay in Senegal, the Trade Office held working sessions with the Senegalese Ministry of Commerce, coordinated with the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture to organize the Vietnam - Senegal Trade Conference, attended the Dakar International Fair, and learned about Senegal's goods distribution system. At the same time, it met with Senegalese enterprises importing rice, pepper, vegetables, fruits, confectionery, seafood, textiles, auto parts, motorbikes, plastic products and Senegalese enterprises exporting cotton, cashews, seafood, animal feed, plastic materials, etc.
