Honoring the pho profession, aiming for intangible cultural heritage

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Le Thi Thiet, President of Nam Dinh Culinary Culture Association, Pho Festival 2024 will officially take place for three days, from March 15-17, in Nam Dinh city (Nam Dinh province).

The festival aims to honor the traditional pho profession; at the same time, it is an opportunity for tourists and locals to learn about and enjoy the taste of pho associated with regional cultures across the country.

Press conference to announce information about Pho Festival with the theme "Vietnamese Pho Road"

The event contributes to spreading Vietnamese pho to integrate more strongly, the value of Vietnamese cuisine reaches further on the world culinary map.

In addition, the series of activities at the Festival also aim to elevate Vietnamese cuisine, making Pho a national brand, associated with the development of domestic and international tourism. In particular, through the Festival, the Organizing Committee hopes to move towards preparing a dossier to submit to UNESCO to make Vietnamese Pho a world cultural heritage.

At the Festival, the main activity called Vietnamese Pho Road will gather more than 50 booths of businesses and brands participating in advertising and promoting the image and brand of Vietnamese Pho from all over the country. The booths are arranged in separate areas, creating highlights, with connections in ideas and content; divided into 3 areas, including: 3-region pho booth, ingredient and spice booth; standard booth. Booths are open from 9 am to 10 pm daily to serve visitors.

In addition to directly introducing the flavor of Vietnamese pho, the Pho Festival also organizes many activities such as: the "Honoring Vietnamese Pho" image collection activity, the 2024 Pho Festival roadshow; a performance with the theme of Vietnamese Pho Road; an activity to set a record for the giant pho pot; a discussion on the development of the pho profession from the past to the future; a space to display pho culture...

The program also includes activities to experience the stages of making Pho for ambassadors, guests and tourists at the traditional Pho craft village of Van Cu. This is a good opportunity for Vietnam to introduce to the world its unique cultural and culinary values; contributing to promoting the images and economic and tourism potential of Vietnam through investment and trade promotion activities, introducing products of manufacturing enterprises in the food and foodstuff sector.

Throughout the 3 days of the Pho Festival 2024, the organizers will issue a special incentive program of 15,000 - 20,000 bowls of pho for diners in the form of coupons. With each coupon worth 15,000 VND, diners will enjoy 1 bowl of pho at the booths of their choice. At the end of the 3 days of the event, the organizers will donate the proceeds of 5,000 coupons to the Cerebral Palsy Children's Fund in Nam Dinh province.

According to the Chairman of the Nam Dinh Culinary Culture Association, this is a good opportunity for Vietnam to introduce to the world its unique cultural and culinary values; contributing to promoting the images and economic and tourism potential of Vietnam in general through investment and trade promotion activities, and introducing products of enterprises producing in the food and foodstuff sector.

Sharing at the press conference, Mr. Do Quang Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nam Dinh province, said that in 2023, the unit is working with related units and coordinating with a number of provinces and cities to build a dossier to submit for recognition of pho as a national intangible cultural heritage, moving towards making Vietnam's pho a world cultural heritage.
