At 6:30 this morning (May 31), search and rescue forces found the body of Hau AT (born in 2001), residing in Kham Duoi village, Nam Chay commune, Van Ban district, who was swept away by floodwaters on the afternoon of May 30.

Informing reporters, Mr. Sung A Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Chay Commune, Van Ban District, said: at 6:30 this morning (May 31), the search and rescue team found the body of the victim Hau AT (born in 2001) who was swept away by the flood on the afternoon of May 30. The location where the body was found is 500 meters from where Hau AT was swept away by the flood.

Nam Chay (Van Ban): Two brothers swept away by flood and missing
As Lao Cai Newspaper reported, on the afternoon of May 30, there was a prolonged heavy rain in Nam Chay commune. While returning from working in the fields, seeing that it was raining heavily, two children, Hau AT (born in 2001) and Hau Thi M. (born in 2012), both living in Kham Duoi village, Nam Chay commune (who are siblings), waded across Kham stream (the section flowing through Kham Duoi village) to return home. However, when they reached the middle of the stream, a flash flood from upstream suddenly swept away the two children.

Immediately after the incident, the local government mobilized police, militia and local people to search. At the same time, they informed the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Van Ban district to send reinforcements to support the search for the victims.
