According to the World Tourism Barometer recently released by the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), last year, the number of tourists worldwide reached more than 1.4 billion. This figure increased by 11% compared to the same period in 2023 and recovered by 99% compared to the same period in 2019.
According to UN Tourism, this result was achieved due to the increasingly strong demand for tourism from people after the Covid-19 pandemic, positive growth from major source markets and the continuous recovery of destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.
In terms of growth, in 2024, Asia-Pacific countries will have the best growth in the world, increasing by 33% compared to the same period in 2023. Accordingly, Northeast Asia will increase by 54%, Southeast Asia will increase by 23%, the Pacific will increase by 12%, and South Asia will increase by 8%.

Although the Asia-Pacific region has made much progress over the past year, its recovery rate is still the lowest, at 87%. Specifically, Northeast Asia recovered 86%, Southeast Asia recovered 88%, the Pacific recovered 83%, and South Asia recovered 92%.
2024 marks Vietnam's remarkable recovery in the context of the region's general difficulties. Vietnam's tourism recovered 98% compared to 2019, much higher than the average of the Asia-Pacific region and equivalent to the world's recovery level.
In Southeast Asia, Vietnam tourism recorded the best recovery rate, higher than famous tourist destinations such as: Malaysia (94%), Thailand (88%), Singapore (86%), Indonesia (86%), Philippines (72%)...
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the positive results that the tourism industry has achieved in recent times are thanks to the close attention and direction of the Government with the issuance of directives and resolutions to facilitate tourism recovery. In particular, the open visa policy is an important driving force to attract international visitors. In addition, there is the breakthrough effectiveness of promotion and advertising programs to important and potential tourist markets.
Taking innovation in content and promotion methods as a highlight, the Vietnamese tourism industry has chosen key markets. Accordingly, focusing on countries that are comprehensive strategic partners of Vietnam such as: the United States, China, South Korea, Russia, France, Australia...
At the same time, deploying diverse promotion methods, from organizing roadshows to participating in fairs, cultural and tourism festivals, promotion conferences... The scale of tourism promotion programs is increasingly expanding. Many types of tourism, especially new products, suitable for tourists' needs are promoted more and more diversely.
