Not only possessing a special geographical location, Vietnam also holds "gray matter" - an important resource for developing technology industries such as AI and semiconductors.
In the series of International Conferences on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors (AISC 2025), experts and scientists shared many opinions and perspectives on the story of Vietnam facing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop science and technology.
According to Aitomatic founder Dr. Christopher Nguyen, Vietnam has attractive demographics, with more than 100 million people and still growing. This goes against the trend of population decline in countries in the region.
For that reason, many countries and territories such as Singapore, the US, and Taiwan (China) are looking to Vietnam as a source of talent. This is in the context of the world's shortage of technical human resources, especially in the semiconductor industry.
Dr. Christopher Nguyen believes that Vietnam can create an artificial intelligence ecosystem, become an AI development center and a source of technical talent for the world.
Vietnam possesses many favorable geopolitical conditions, along with a culture of optimism among its people towards AI. “ I believe that with the intersection of these conditions, Vietnam is facing a once-in-4,000-years opportunity to lead the AI and semiconductor revolution ,” said Dr. Christopher Nguyen.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Yen, a senior expert from Soitec (USA), the world is in a decade witnessing rapid growth in the semiconductor industry. In that context, this female expert believes that Vietnam is facing great opportunities.
Explaining this statement, Ms. Bich Yen said that the biggest challenge in developing semiconductor microchips is human resources with deep expertise.
“ Vietnam is a country with experts in all stages of the microchip field, from manufacturing to design. For this reason, I think Vietnam has the opportunity to enter the microchip industry and will develop very quickly, ” said the Soitec expert.
One of the important advantages of Vietnam is its very special geographical location. It only takes a few hours of flight from Vietnam to countries that are developed in the field of microelectronics. If there is close cooperation with those countries, even if it comes later, Vietnam has a great opportunity to rise in the semiconductor industry.
The third reason is that the world is rearranging the semiconductor “chessboard”. The semiconductor industry cannot depend on just one or a few countries. Therefore, Vietnam has the opportunity to participate in this industry.
In that context, according to Dr. Nguyen Thi Bich Yen, Vietnam needs to do everything possible to seize the opportunity because opportunity will not wait for anyone. Vietnam will need cooperation with partners to move quickly on the path of developing the microchip industry.
