(NLDO) – A group of 3 children were passing through a flooded area when 2 of them were swept away and went missing in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province.
On the evening of December 15, Mr. Nguyen Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Duy Chau Commune, Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, said that the functional forces and local people had recovered the bodies of two children who drowned in the locality.
The area where the tragic incident occurred
According to initial information, on the same afternoon, a group of 3 children from Duy Chau commune were passing through a flooded area in Tan Tho village, Duy Chau commune when 2 children (both born in 2015) were swept away and went missing. Upon learning the information, the authorities and local people organized a search and by early this evening, the bodies of both children were found.
According to Mr. Dung, the two deceased children belonged to two local families. Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
It is known that in the past few days, Quang Nam province has had heavy rain, especially in the upper reaches. Heavy rain combined with hydroelectric dams releasing floodwaters has caused some low-lying areas in Duy Xuyen district to be partially flooded.
On December 14, also in this district, 3 students on their way home from school were swept away by floodwaters and were fortunately saved by a man.
On December 15, at its peak, Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant discharged floodwater with a flow rate of more than 800 m3 /second. At 7:00 p.m. on December 15, Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant was discharging floodwater with a flow rate of nearly 400 m3 /second.
