Supporting rural women to start businesses

Implementing Project 939 "Supporting women to start a business", the Standing Committee of the Women's Union of Thoai Son district organized 36 communication points with 1,080 members and women participating; the content informed about a number of policies to support women to start a business, produce and do business, and implement cashless payments in buying and selling and business activities. At the same time, 59 female owners of production and business establishments were sent to participate in training on brand recognition knowledge and instructions on the product trademark registration process in 2024 in the province. Through the training course, it aims to provide an overview of brands and intangible assets of enterprises, thereby supporting enterprises, cooperatives (HTX), and business households owned by women to build, register trademarks, protect and maintain brands for the sustainable development of enterprises. Thereby, creating conditions to support business owners and enterprises to improve product quality, build brands to increase competitiveness and integration capabilities for female-owned businesses in the digital age.

Chairman of the Thoai Son District Women's Union Duong Triet Minh said: "In 2024, the Thoai Son District Women's Union organized 3 online sales skills training courses for women-owned businesses and women entrepreneurs, with 606 women attending. In addition, introducing and displaying women's startup products, 17 communes and towns participated in displaying 40 products on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8, and the ceremony to announce Thoai Son district as meeting the advanced new rural standards... In addition, the association also provided capital to 10 women entrepreneurs, each with 5 million VND, and supported 2 production facilities for Dai Phat dried products and Thanh Tuyen fish sauce (Vinh Phu commune) to meet the 3-star OCOP standard".

Training to help women become economic masters

Typically, Ms. Vuong Kim Dinh (born in 1992, residing in Nam Hue hamlet, Binh Thanh commune, Thoai Son district) has affirmed herself through starting a business with tea and ginseng wine. The joy on Ms. Kim Dinh's entrepreneurial journey is when the local government accompanies, supports, and helps her access loans. "When I started testing tea and ginseng wine products, it took me about 6 months. Each time I failed, I learned valuable lessons when processing the products. With the determination to start a business, I accumulated experience after failures, and finally succeeded. Through the booths of women entrepreneurs and the district's startup product exhibition, I promoted the products to a large number of consumers in and outside the locality" - Ms. Dinh shared.

In addition, Thoai Son Women's Union has launched a brocade weaving cooperative model and a palm fan making cooperative (Oc Eo town); a women's group weaving plastic baskets (Vinh Trach commune), a group growing color (Thoai Giang commune), with 54 members; maintaining the activities of production linkage groups: weaving plastic baskets, weaving water hyacinth mats, broom bundles, plastic rattan chairs, raising pigs on biological bedding, attracting 333 workers, with an average income of 2.5 - 3 million VND/month.

The District Women's Union also focuses on developing cooperatives and cooperative groups, creating jobs and stable income for hundreds of female workers. Specifically, implementing Project 01 on "Supporting cooperatives managed by women, creating jobs for female workers by 2030", the Standing Committee of the Thoai Son District Women's Union coordinated with the Cooperative Alliance to organize a training course to improve the capacity of developing collective economy and cooperatives for 30 women who are leaders of cooperatives, cooperative groups and members. The training course provided knowledge on developing collective economy, cooperatives, cooperative groups and new points in the Law on Cooperatives 2024.

According to the President of the Thoai Son District Women's Union, Duong Triet Minh, the union has set up a project to build lakes to help 20 poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty women's households to support lake-making tools, with a total cost of 950 million VND, of which the national target program for poverty reduction supports 450 million VND; at the same time, it has set up a project to grow crops to help 20 members access capital from the Ho Chi Minh City Women Entrepreneurs Association with an amount of 200 million VND. The district Women's Union also coordinated with related sectors to organize counseling and introduce jobs for 1,518 workers who are children of officials and female members working in and outside the province; introduced labor export to Korea and Japan for 107 people, including 53 women. The Thoai Son District Women's Union has coordinated with the Thoai Son District Branch of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development to develop a plan to continue implementing Decree 55/TTg-CP. Through this, 40 members and women were introduced to borrow capital with the amount of 9 billion 750 million VND. In addition, the Women's Union of communes and towns introduced women members to access loans from commercial banks, providing capital for 71 women, with the amount of 2.3 billion VND.

With its continuous efforts, the Thoai Son District Women's Union has been making an important contribution to improving the status of women in society and promoting local economic development. The Union's activities to support start-ups and economic development have created opportunities and resources for women, helping them confidently assert themselves and contribute to the development of the community.
