Fresh food prices near Tet in Ha Tinh increase by 10-30%

In the days before Tet, traditional markets in Ha Tinh are bustling with shoppers. Prices of fresh foods, vegetables, and fruits have increased by 10-30% compared to normal days.

Beef prices on Tet holiday range from 220,000 - 280,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 20,000 VND/kg compared to normal days.

According to records at traditional markets on the morning of the 29th of Tet, the shopping atmosphere was bustling, with quite a number of people coming to shop at food stalls.

At this time, the prices of beef, pork, and chicken have increased by about 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg compared to normal days. Traders said that the prices started to increase from the 27th of Tet. Accordingly, beef ribs are 220,000 VND/kg, beef tenderloin is 260,000 VND/kg, beef shank is 280,000 VND/kg; pork ribs and pork are from 110 - 130,000 VND/kg; live roosters are 130 - 150,000 VND/kg...

“The days before Tet are the time when meat sales are the highest of the year. People's demand for food increases. On the 27th and 28th of Tet, I sold more than 500 kg of meat per day, an increase of about 50% compared to normal days. It is expected that on the 29th and 30th of Tet, purchasing power will be even higher. In addition to selling to retail customers, we also import for small stalls and restaurants. The price almost always increases by 10,000 - 20,000 VND/kg before Tet,” said Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, a pork vendor at Ha Tinh City Market.

Seafood prices near Tet increased from 20,000 - 50,000 VND/kg.

Not only meat but also seafood prices have increased quite a bit compared to normal days. Currently, cobia and sliced ​​mackerel cost 300,000 - 350,000 VND/kg; farmed whiteleg shrimp costs 200 - 300,000 VND/kg, tiger prawn costs 350 - 400,000 VND/kg; pomfret costs 200,000 VND/kg; tuna costs 70,000 VND/kg; frozen squid costs 250 - 350,000 VND/kg...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - a fishmonger at Vuon Uom market (Ha Tinh city) said: “I mainly sell large fish such as pomfret, cobia, mackerel and squid. Since the 27th of Tet, the prices of fish and squid we buy from Thach Kim fishing port have increased by 20,000 - 50,000 VND/kg. The reason is that near Tet, boats no longer go fishing, so the main supply is frozen goods and fish raised in cages. On the 28th of Tet, I sold about 200 kg of fish/day, double the usual amount. This year's purchasing power has increased compared to normal days but is not as busy as the Tet market in previous years.”

Prices of shrimp on the 28th of Tet at traditional markets range from 200,000 - 400,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, the prices of vegetables at this time increased by about 30-40% compared to normal days, the high increase mainly concentrated in the group of vegetables imported from other provinces and cities to Ha Tinh. Specifically, on the morning of the 29th of Tet, the price of sweet vegetables, cabbage was 17-20,000 VND/kg, bell peppers 60,000 VND, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots 25-30,000 VND/kg, onions and coriander 40,000 VND/kg, green cabbage 12,000 VND/bunch... According to traders, although the price of vegetables for Tet this year has increased compared to normal days, it is cheaper than the same period last year.

At fresh fruit stalls, traders import a variety of fruits with beautiful shapes to serve people's holiday shopping needs. Some types of fruit that many people choose to buy are: red pineapple for 70,000 VND/fruit, green-skinned grapefruit with leaf stalks for 70,000 VND/kg, oranges for 50,000 VND/kg, young coconuts for 30,000 VND/fruit, longans for 50,000 VND/kg, custard apples for 130,000 VND/kg, dragon fruit for 50,000 VND/kg, bananas for an average of 100 - 150,000 VND/bunch, with some beautiful bunches costing up to more than 200,000 VND...

Fresh fruits are imported by retailers in a variety of beautiful shapes for customers to choose from.

Buying food at Ha Tinh City Market, Ms. Bui Thi Hien shared: “Fresh food and fruit items always tend to increase near Tet compared to normal days. This year, the increase is not too high, there are many goods so it is easy to choose to buy. The important thing is that every year during Tet, I choose fresh and delicious food and beautiful fruits to offer at the altar, even if the price is a little higher, I happily accept it.”

According to retailers, usually around the last week of December, prices of food items increase. In addition to the reason of increased prices of goods, transportation is also more difficult during the days before Tet, and transportation costs also increase compared to normal days.
