National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hopes that Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper will continue to urge the US agency to consider early recognition of Vietnam's market economy status.

On the afternoon of August 15, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Evans Knapper.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sincerely thanked the United States for promptly sending a message of condolences to the Party, State and people of Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; President Joe Biden sent a letter of deep condolences and sent Secretary of State Antony Blinken to lead a delegation to Vietnam to pay his respects to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; and thanked the Ambassador and the US Embassy in Vietnam personally for promptly sending a message of condolences for this great loss to Vietnam.
The National Assembly Chairman said that Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper is very knowledgeable about the people and country of Vietnam, and has made many positive contributions to promoting Vietnam-US relations, including preparing for President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam in September 2023.
The National Assembly Chairman hopes that Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper will pay attention to implementing the signed agreement, contributing to promoting relations between the two countries.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam always considers the United States a partner of strategic importance; and welcomed the United States' continued commitment to supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam.
Since the bilateral relationship was upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (September 2023), relevant agencies of the two countries have actively coordinated to implement the new framework of relations. In recent times, the two countries have increased the exchange of delegations at all levels and achieved many positive results.
In 2023, bilateral trade turnover will reach nearly 111 billion USD; bilateral trade in the first 7 months of 2024 will reach over 66.1 billion USD. Parliamentarians of the two countries regularly exchange delegations and cooperate in the fields of legislation and supervision...
The National Assembly Chairman suggested that in the coming time, the two sides should strengthen the effective implementation of the Vietnam-US Joint Statement and Action Plan towards the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.
Believing that the potential and room for cooperation between the two countries is still very large, the National Assembly Chairman proposed increasing two-way trade turnover; promoting investment in the fields of science and technology; education and training, health care, etc. The two countries' National Assemblies should further deepen cooperation to exchange experiences in legislative work and supervise the implementation of cooperation agreements.

The National Assembly Chairman hopes that Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper will continue to urge the US agency to consider early recognition of Vietnam's market economy status and remove Vietnam from the list of countries with restricted high-tech exports; support Vietnam at important international forums such as the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN, etc.; increase the budget to overcome dioxin hotspots, clear bombs and mines, support people with disabilities, and search for and identify the remains of Vietnamese martyrs.
Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for taking the time to meet him; emphasized that the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss not only for Vietnam but also for the US-Vietnam bilateral relationship; affirmed that the US will continue to closely coordinate with General Secretary, President To Lam and the leaders of Vietnam.
The US Ambassador said that the cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the Vietnamese National Assembly and the US Congress, is one of the important pillars contributing to the common achievements of the bilateral relationship; thanked the active support of the Vietnamese National Assembly and its agencies in promoting bilateral relations and enhancing understanding between members of the two parliaments.
Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper agreed with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on the importance of realizing the Joint Statement; affirmed that he would continue to discuss with relevant ministries and sectors to soon recognize Vietnam's market economy status and remove Vietnam from the list of countries with restricted high-tech exports; expressed his belief that the US-Vietnam relationship will continue to achieve further success./.
