Russia's TASS news agency quoted Prime Minister Mishustin as saying at a meeting with Premier Li Qiang that Moscow and Beijing should jointly defend their interests and the principles of the multipolar world order amid pressure from Western sanctions.

"We are in a difficult foreign situation. Western countries are imposing illegal sanctions under absurd pretexts," he said.

The Chinese premier's visit to Russia comes on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and will last until August 22. As Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning noted, "Under the strategic guidance of the two leaders, China-Russia relations have weathered external disturbances and maintained healthy and stable growth."

In the first seven months of this year, China-Russia trade increased 1.6% year-on-year to $136.67 billion. Meanwhile, total trade between the two countries exceeded $240 billion in 2023, nearly 2.7 times that of a decade ago.

According to the schedule, after visiting Russia, Mr. Li Qiang will continue to visit Belarus.
