Speaking at the NATO 75th Anniversary Summit in Washington, Mr. Sanchez said: "If we tell our people that we support Ukraine because we defend international law, this is the same as what we have to do with Gaza."

The socialist leader said there needed to be a "consistent political stance" in which there were "no double standards".
The world needs to apply pressure to "end the terrible humanitarian crisis" affecting Palestinians, he said, calling for an international peace conference to push for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
“We need to create the conditions for an immediate and urgent ceasefire,” he said. “There is a real risk of escalation in Lebanon.”
Under Prime Minister Sanchez, Spain angered Israel's right-wing government by recognizing the state of Palestine and criticizing Israel's conduct in the war against Hamas.
Mr Sanchez said he also supported "democracy, freedom and the right to exist of a country like Ukraine".
At the NATO Summit, leaders also declared that Ukraine is on an "irreversible" path to joining the military alliance.
