Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the occasion of the P4G Summit

On the morning of April 16, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a working meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the occasion of attending the 4th Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G).

Thanking Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for inviting him to attend the P4G Summit, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized that with the theme “Global Partnership for Inclusive, Sustainable, Innovative, People-Centered Green Transformation”, this Summit is a very meaningful event, demonstrating Vietnam's proactiveness and practical contributions in promoting global common efforts for the goals of green growth, green transformation and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on the occasion of the Lao New Year Bun Pi-may; highly appreciated the Lao Prime Minister representing the high-ranking delegation of the Lao Government to attend and speak at the High-level Discussion Session at this P4G Summit; demonstrating Laos' respect and interest in Vietnam's important multilateral event in 2025.

As one of the 7 founding members and official partners of P4G, Vietnam believes that with the active participation and valuable contributions of the Lao delegation and other international delegations, the P4G Summit will continue to be an important forum for member countries and guest countries, international organizations to exchange and promote initiatives and cooperation mechanisms on green and sustainable growth, contributing to the common efforts of the international community in solutions to respond to climate change, digital transformation, science and technology and innovation; promoting green transformation strategies for sustainable development goals at the national, regional and global levels.

Congratulating the Lao Government on its many achievements in all aspects of security - politics, economy - society, culture - education, and the increasingly enhanced prestige and position of Laos in the region and internationally, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his belief that under the direction of the Party and the management of the Government, Laos will continue to reap many new and greater victories, contributing to improving people's lives as well as promoting the role and position of Laos in regional and international forums.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone congratulated Vietnam on its impressive achievements in recent times; emphasizing that Laos always pays close attention to and considers Vietnam's achievements as a great source of encouragement and motivation for the cause of building and developing Laos.

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his emotion at Vietnam's holding of a national funeral in memory of the late President Khamtay Siphandone and the attendance of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders at the memorial service for the former Party Chairman, former President, and former Prime Minister Khamtay Siphandone in both Vientiane and Hanoi. The Lao Prime Minister emphasized that such deep feelings and understanding can only exist between close friends, comrades, and brothers.

Discussing bilateral relations, the two Prime Ministers assessed that the special Vietnam-Laos relationship continues to develop well, firmly and effectively in most areas. Political relations have been constantly consolidated and strengthened through visits, meetings and contacts at high and all levels.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to direct relevant agencies to focus on effectively implementing high-level agreements, including the results of the meeting between the two Politburoes and the 47th Session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee; continue to strengthen and consolidate political relations and special trust; security and defense cooperation to ensure security, order and social safety; agree to strengthen measures to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation; create breakthroughs towards a bilateral trade turnover of 5 billion USD; effectively implement major and key projects of Vietnamese enterprises in Laos; strengthen comprehensive connectivity of the two economies, especially in infrastructure, transportation, investment and tourism; promote cooperation in other fields such as education - training, culture, science and technology, tourism and people-to-people exchange.

Discussing international and regional issues of mutual concern, the Lao Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's proactive and timely exchange with the United States regarding the imposition of reciprocal tariffs.

The two Prime Ministers stressed the importance of maintaining peace, security and stability in the region; agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and Mekong sub-regional cooperation mechanisms; especially to continuously promote the close cooperation between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
